The Renegade VA — Restaurant in Arlington

So, I just recently attended a show here. Very thankful that we have places like this that are still able to provide entertainment during these times! However:

1. Our waiter was hardly accessible to us, which was frustrating considering we were told not to leave our table (due to covid restrictions) and had reserved a party of 12.

2. I was forced to confront the bar staff about a metal screw that was in our drink. It seemed like a nozzle that may have accidentally fell into it, which is understandable. However, our waiter thought that scolding me for leaving my seat as opposed to acknowledging this critical error was more important! They replaced the drink. But still!

3. I was then again forced to find our waiter! Who had spent most of his time in the corner behind the bar without a care in the world that we’ve been waiting on water and drinks for 30+ minutes! After hearing the frustration from our party I tried to fetch him one final time.

4. I approached the bar and before I can even speak he starts shining a flashlight in my face signaling security to kick me out. Not even allowing me speak. LUCKILY, the security heard me out, and the manager was called, where he spoke with me and assigned us two new waiters!

5. I walk outside to vape and relax after a frustrating encounter and I see the same waiter. Immediately talking trash to me before I even get the door open, telling me he doesn’t want to talk to me and to go on. For starters I came out here to VAPE, I wasn’t trying to see you bro. He then shelled out some threats which at that point nearly brought out the worst in me.

With all that being said - I can not stress enough how awesome the manager was. He turned this experience into a positive one and even with all the negatives I’ve mentioned it would not keep me away from enjoying myself here again. We had a great night once everything got sorted out. Also, shout out to the security for not impulsively throwing me out. I talked to most of them by the end of the night and I know they’re just trying to do there job. They were all super cool.

That waiter doesn’t seem to care much about his job though. I understand that navigating with these restrictions are difficult but the fact of the matter is he had no interest in serving us. His emotional response to all these situations I mentioned above surely solidifies my assumptions.

What a crazy odd gem of a place this is. I was on business and had really not been impressed by the DC food scene at all. Ended up here because the place I was going to wasnt open yet and I figured I could blow off some time and have a couple of beers. This place is almost all black inside and is setup to handle a lot of live rock bands. Looked at the menu and its really weird for a rock band bar and I figured no big deal - beers will be good. Telling the bartender about my trip and disappointment when the owner comes out. Would never tell this guy was the owner by the mohawk punk rock look he had but he and the staff are super cool and laid back people. He says let me order you something to try. Out come dishes.

Lemongrass beef - thought for sure this would be chewy hard overcooked griddled sirloin steak. Imagine my surprise - super tender, super flavorful sweet sour salty Asian grilled seared steak what I think is a cut similar to flank steak.

Next the pretzel sticks with queso - these arent normal pretzel sticks - they have an outside look like pretzels and have a crunch but are soft and a touch of sweetness with almost a donut chew to them coated in a fine salt pepper maybe garlic? powder seasoning. I am a bit of a foodie snob and can cook about anything and have no idea how to replicate because its just a pretzel right? But its NOT JUST a pretzel - soo good.

Lamb chops - coated in what I think is a cinnamon cardamon crust grilled to perfection. Incredible grilled tender lambchops.
