This is by far the worst place I have eaten at in Asheville and one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had anywhere. Walking in, we were greeted by a nearly dead, upside down Koi drifting on the bottom of their fish tank. Probably should have been a sign to turn around and go somewhere else. But, we pressed on due to all of the good things we had heard about the place. A lady, who I’m assuming was the manager or owner, then came up to us and said booth, pointed across the room, and walked away. We sat ourselves and proceeded to wait about 5 minutes for menus. The waitress took our drink order and returned about a minute later and asked us if we wanted to order. We had not even had enough time to open our menus. Once we got settled in, we ordered some appetizers, pork pot stickers and spring rolls, and they were pretty good. They were definitely the highlight of our meal. I ordered three sushi rolls for my meal and my fiancé ordered a steak bento box. Our salad and soup came next. She had a house salad with ginger dressing and I had the wonton soup. Her dressing tasted nothing of ginger and my wonton soup tasted like vegetable oil. The crispy wontons looked like corn tortillas cut into strips and fried and tasted like dish soap. We didn’t eat either of them. After waiting about 35 minutes for our food, her entree finally came out. Mine didn’t come out for another 10-15 minutes. Her steak was mushy and unseasoned. The teriyaki sauce was overly sweet, as was the tempura. Her fried rice tasted of soap. The sushi was actually pretty good, with the exception of the tuna roll. There were two obviously different types of fish in it and it had a very fishy flavor. When I asked the waitress about it, she said she didn’t know what the other fish was. Our dirty dishes remains on our table throughout the meal until I finally asked the waitress to take them away. Needless to say, we won’t be returning to Pacific Pagoda and would advise anyone with any decent taste in food to stay...
Read moreThis restaurant actually has two parts, both excellent. One half of the establishment is a high quality sushi bar and Asian restaurant. This is the Pacific Pagoda part. They serve fresh, high grade sushi and sashimi, maki rolls (check out their wild and creative specials) and a variety of Japanese, Chinese, and Thai dishes. Everything is very tasty, presented beautifully, and well priced. I find it to be equally as good as Umi in Hendersonville, but not as, expensive. The sushi chef is experienced and friendly. I’ve always had a great time and great food here. This is where I bring family and friends, when I want to be sure everyone has a wonderful meal. This is where I celebrated being engaged to my fiancée with a sushi party boat. My only complaint would be that the food is often slow to come out, but you can’t rush good sushi! Also, don’t miss out on the dragon roll. Even if you don’t think you’ll like eel, you’re wrong. It’s amazing!
The second half of this restaurant is actually called Asian On The Go 2. It’s a classic Asian takeout place serving all the dishes you know and love. Hibachi, General Tso’s, and even sushi to go. It’s actually pretty dang good. I can’t really explain how since it’s just standard takeout, but it’s just better somehow. I’ve eaten a lot of Chinese takeout and this is just the best! I’m not the only one who thinks so either of the high volume of traffic in there is any indication!
In summary, it doesn’t matter what kind of Asian food experience you’re craving, this place has you covered and you’ll be happy you chose...
Read moreStopped here during our brief visit to Asheville, seeking a great Sushi restaurant. Pleasantly surprised as soon as we entered, as this restaurant had a great ambience with tables, little well decorated booths, and a bar area. Was a nice quiet atmosphere, 5 stars. Excellent 5 star service, as we were quickly waited on and not pressured to order quickly. Our server attended to our needs throughout the dinner. It's been awhile since we had “chinese“ and wanted some, despite the fact that they offered excellent Japanese entrees, sushi rolls/meals, and a variety of sakeI For drinks, I opted for the Godzilla drink- vodka, gin, etc. as I was in that kind of a mood. I liked it, but quickly disposed of the straw/decoration. My wife had her usual Chateau St Michelle reisling, and she received a generous pour. I ordered the General Tsao with wonton soup, eggroll, and fried rice, my wife had Chicken and mixed vegetables. Both entrees tasted great, 5 stars. I appreciated my plate had the rice in a seperate bowl, and that my broccoli was not overcooked, fresh, and was kept off to the side. Portion sizes were large. We had great overall dining experience. This entire meal, 2 drinks, 2 entrees, and 2 soups was $51, not overpriced,...
