My fiancé and I went to dinner at Sunset Terrace; it's the last Grove Park restaurant we have not dined in, and decided to spruce up our Tuesday and give it a whirl. The first thing we were greeted with was a waiter who was so high on coke that I almost asked him for a bump in the bathroom but thought better of it. That's not to say his service was bad, it's just his eyes were so wide and he was so intense that I was a little taken aback when he went over in great detail every item on the menu in 12 seconds. We decided on the shrimp cocktail, and the black bean soup, and we each got the New York strip. We felt confident in our choices, easy dishes to make that are usually satisfying and require minimum effort. Our first cruel taste of the kitchen came from a plate of shrimp cocktail that would have been the worst I have ever had had it not been the same exact shrimp you can pick up from Walmart for get-togethers at home. I thought Halloween was a week ago, but clearly, the chefs at Sunset Terrace didn't get the message they brought out a $9.00 bowl of black bean soup that was clearly opened from a Campbell's soup can, poured into a bowl, and heated in a microwave. This was the best thing we had all night so thank you Campbells for that. The kind folks at the table next to us got their food before us, and we got a sneak preview of what we were about to indulge in. The man ordered a medium steak and it came out still screaming at the butcher for the pain it was enduring. This diminished our hopes some, but we were determined not to let it ruin our steak experience. Our steaks arrived, we ordered the medium rare and to their credit my fiancé's steak was cooked perfectly. My steak was blue, not just cooked enough for the meat to start to turn brown on top and very much still raw all the way through. I did not send mine back seeing as my hope in the kitchen to fix it had already left me and I had eaten tar tar on plenty of occasions. The steak was $67.00 and saying it was low quality would be an insult to Waffle House and Applebee's meats. Having eaten at most steak houses in Asheville this was without a doubt the worst steak I have ever eaten. Well partially eaten. We quickly got our check paid our $200 bill and left a 20% tip it wasn't our waiter's fault that our food was terrible and we would feel horrible letting our local coke dealer not be able to feed their kids. TLDR Lowest quality Grove Park Restaurant, Over priced. pre made foods Low...
Read moreVery good variety of Prime Meat Cuts. Also has seafood plates. We're seated quickly without reservation. Such an amazing view of downtown ashville and the mountains all around. Service is amazing 👏. Sarah helped us take pictures and let us know all about the menu. For starters we ordered chilled shellfish platter for two. It came with 6 snowcrab claws, 4 oysters, 1 big lobster tail and 4 decent sized cocktail shrimp. All the meat was nice and soft. It came with an assortment of 4 sauces. Butter sauce for lobster tail and crab, cocktail sauce for the shrimp, vinegar sauce for oysters, and a creamy yogurt sauce for all around everything. We also ordered the field green salad which was super good 👌. For the entres we got the chailen sea bass with the chimichuri sauce. It had a nice buttery flavor and was very light in your mouth, the chimichuri gives it a nice fresh citrus flavor. We also got the 8oz Center-Cut Filet. This i shared with my sister and we really ate everything family style trying each other's dishes. The filet really melts into your mouth and is perfectly seasoned. The last entre that we ordered was the 22oz Bone-In Ribeye. This was such an amazing peice of steak. It was very well seasoned with 2 sauces, one a creamy mayonnaise base sauce and a very fancy a1 steak sauce thaf tasted 500x better. The 22oz steak is a really great share size. If you wanted to split this steak it would work. For sides we order the Gouda Mac & Cheese, the Brussels sprouts, and the whipped potatoes. The Gouda Mac was super rich and creamy. The Brussel Sprouts were so tasty. They had a soy reduction and tasted like teriyaki almost. The whipped potatoes were literal clouds with a buttery taste. To finish off this fabulous 👌 dinner we ordered the strawberry hibiscus cheesecake for dessert. It was a nice rich strawberry flavor with a candied hibiscus flower on top. Thanks for reading...
Read moreWe emailed management about our experience, but seeing as to how there has been no reply I’m posting a review instead. The best part of the whole experience was the view from the terrace. The wait staff was mostly inattentive and unknowledgeable. The taste of the food was mediocre at best. The port wine reduction sauce tasted like condensed soy sauce.( The weight staff said it was in fact the port wine reduction sauce and not a mistake. Chef has Asian food influence however, it is in fact advertised on menu as a port wine reduction sauce and not teriyaki sauce or Szechuan or a soy based sauce Asian fusion type of sauce). The skins on the red potatoes stuck to the roof of your mouth and your teeth as if they didn’t care to wash the starch from the liquid they were cooked in. We had the Baba for dessert...the menu specifically advertised it is served with a raspberry coulis. They served it to us with a few slices of strawberry and couple of blueberries slopped on a plate and when we questioned the waitress tried convincing us that that the chef uses fresh sliced berries as the coulis instead of an actual coulis that is made of berry. As she was trying to convince us about the coulis she started to even question why it was fresh berries in the first place and the disparity between the menu and the dish as presented. The menu itself sounds pretentious but the food falls short of The fine dining experience it tries to convey. The overall food and experience does not measure up to the standard one would expect from a restaurant in that location selling food at their price range much less an Omni hotel’s restaurant. It is apparent that the arrogance of the staff outweighs...
