I have heard some pretty good things about this place. Heading to the Hanover Pumpkin Patch, we thought we'd stop at Suzanne's for lunch. The place has a very cozy feel to the place, kind of going into Grandma's house. Walking to place your order, you pass lots of mouth watering treats and cooked dishes. We placed our order and then went and found a table. After about 15 mins a young lady came out calling our name and carrying our food. My kids and myself got ours but my wife had to wait about another 5 mins. I ordered Shepard Pie. I was very disappointed 😞. I took a couple of bites and it was stone cold. My daughter got vegetable soup and 🐔 sandwich. She loved the soup, but they had smothered the sandwich in mayo, which she doesn't like. My son loved his grilled chicken sandwich though. Once they brought my wife's sandwich, we noticed that it wasn't what she ordered. So we preceded to tell the lady, our issues. She seemed a little miffed, but I couldn't figure out is was upset at us or the kitchen. She took my pie back and heated it up, asked my wife if she wanted something different, so she ordered a NC BBQ sandwich and switched out my daughter's sandwich. All of this was great customer service, but a lot of issues to begin with. My wife didn't care for the bbq and honestly, the Shepherds Pie had a very floury taste to it. Will say the cucumbers 🥒 and tomatoes were amazing! Didn't try any of the desserts. I definitely would give them another try. I heard so many good things that I hope this was just a fluke but our first experience wasn't very good.

A lovely lunch destination with plenty of options for a filling meal. I got a Hanover Club, and my friend got a BLT. You get to choose a side to go with your sandwich, and each is delicious. The bread is fresh, the meat tasty. My chocolate cake is a tad dry, but the chocolatly goodness makes up for it. The only drawback I found to be is the layout of the place. I had to navigate around a line of people ordering to get to the drink refill station. Ashland is a great small town, and I'll definitely be back to "Homemade by Suzanne" because it's totally worth the drive!

So happy to find this FIVE STAR dining spot only two miles off I-95 in Ashland, Virginia. Awesome food and a wonderful break for during our long drive from North Carolina to Maryland. Try the NC and VA BBQ sandwiches, potato salad, pea salad, wide choice of deserts, and much more (see the complete menu photo). Located beside the Henry Clay Inn and Historic Ashland Railroad Station.

It is with regret that I update my previously favorable review to comment on the restaurant experience here. The food remains good but the restaurant itself is in dire need of updating. I've grown increasingly frustrated with the inefficiency of this restaurant and yesterday was the last straw.

We stood in line for over 30 minutes to place our sandwich order when the cashier advised us that it would be another half hour to receive our food so we walked out. A few moments later, the couple behind us in line, also walked out to head to the restaurant next door. The chit chat between others in the queue makes me wonder how much lost business they suffer from because they are running a restaurant that is well beyond its breaking point. The lines are always long so you know they're doing something right but you have to go when you have plenty of time. Two guys in line commented that they could drive to another restaurant a few miles down the road and get their food before they'd be able to place their order here. They left as well.

Upon entering the front door, you are shoehorned down a narrow aisle to reach the back of the line after a pinchpoint at the corner of the food prep area. Employees often are crossing the line of customers to access a storage area across from the food prep area.

This restaurant is an ideal candidate for one of those restaurant makeover shows. I've been coming here since the 90s and the only changes I can recall is that you now place and pay for your order with the same person, they've computerized the orders, and they have printed menus scattered around as you wait in line. I'm sure there are others but nothing addresses what I see as their biggest issues. The prices have increased just like everywhere else but very little of that seems to be reinvested into the restaurant. It looks exactly the same as I remember when I first walked in 25 years ago.

This restaurant could greatly benefit from a shutdown to completely reaarange the flow of traffic and the layout of key areas. Or move into a larger facility. It's so dated that it probably comes across as a quaint place with country charm but this place has the potential to be such a better dining experience. I will miss this little place but I look forward to returning when I hear it's moved or has gone through a...

Phenomenal food, fantastic staff and excellent ambiance are just a few words to describe Homemades by Suzanne.

I’ve been frequenting Homemades for several months now. To say that food is phenomenal is an understatement. All the meals, whether they are sandwiches or desserts, are made with love and care. They are very, very delicious.

And, there is a wide variety of meals to choose from. From amazing sandwiches (my favorite is country ham!) and filling quiche, to excellent sides (my favorite is Greek salad with a deviled egg), to heavenly desserts (who can say no to an overloaded brownie?).

Employees working here are more like friends. They are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. Many times in the past, I’ve been checked on by Suzanne herself. It’s such a lovely personal touch.

Recently, Homemades changed the way you order your lunch. An employee fills out an order form, and it’s placed in a queue. Your name is called out when the sandwich is prepared.

Many thanks to Suzanne and all the employees for creating such a lovely place. Every time I come here, it is very relaxing and easy-going. Please keep up this...
