If you like service with an attitude and food that does not match the chain's typical high quality, then Athens, GA would be your location!
For 30 years I've had the privilege of dining at the Suwanee, Georgia location, which in recent years has been rated the highest rated Schlotzsky's in the USA! It's great! The people in Suwanee are great! The service in Suwanee is great! And the food in Suwanee is fabulous.
THEN.. we moved to Athens, GA. I seriously find myself wondering if this is the worst location of Schlotzsky's in the USA! Today, after about a dozen mediocre to bad visits, I told my husband I'm done with the Athens, GA location!
On the bright side, my order itself was correct today. However, my sandwich at first appearance didn't look quite right. When I bit into it the bread was very weird and doughy. I found it kind of pasty and it tasted very plain. It was more like something I could have gotten by walking across the parking lot and buying something at the grocery store myself. It was not your typical Schlotzsky's bunz.
So I asked one of the ladies, "Did Schlotzsky's change their bread recipe?"
She quipped back, "No! It's the same recipe it has been for 40 years. We've got the same cook we've had for a decade. That's the same bun." And she walked off, carrying her attitude high.. never considering it might be worth asking me if something was wrong with the bun.
After she left, I turned to my husband and said, "I've been dining at Schlotzsky's for 30 years, and this is not their typical bun. It doesn't taste anything like a Schlotzsky's bun!"
Hubby responded that his bun wasn't as good as usual either, and it was crumbly more than usual. He had gotten a medium sandwich, so his bread was from a different batch. I had torn off a piece of my bun for my husband to taste. We both agreed that this was much more like a bun out of a bag at the grocery store. It was on the pasty & doughy side rather than the typical Schlotzsky's sourdough bunz!
I've had this location in Athens serve me a salad with rotten apple on it before, and have had my order wrong on more than one occasion. And it's corrected if I complain, which is nice, but I could do without the snarky attitudes towards the customers. Today I wasn't in the mood to deal with it, as is usually the case, so I just choked it down, not enjoying it at all.
In any case, this is NOT a quality Schlotzsky's location in Athens, GA in 2022-2023. If you've only dined at this location, and decided you don't like Schlotzsky's, for the love of Schlotzsky's, please go to any other location before writing them off completely!
If you're ever near Suwanee, Georgia, and you want to have great Schlotzsky's to see what that's like, go there. As for me and my household, this Schlotzsky's in Athens is being written off the books.
I should have taken photos of my sandwich before I even bit into it, but I didn't. So I don't know if you can tell anything from the photos I did take, but this dense, doughy bread is not the way Schlotzsky's Bunz typically...
Read moreWent by Saturday afternoon 7/2/25. Took my mother to get a dozen cookies. She enjoys schlozskys. Me personally; not my favorite place. Anyhow; i took her there regardless.
My mother stated previously that she ordered 12 cookies for around $15. So therefore, she wanted the same deal.
The lady at the drive-thru had poor customer service. Her attitude was nasty. I do not appreciate how she spoke to my mother. Very disrespectful.
My mother simply asked for the same $15 deal she received previously on the dozen. The lady at the drive-thru said Quote “There’s NO way you got 12-cookies for $15.”
Unacceptable. And rude. You do not speak to a customer like that. Period. Especially somebody’s mother.
One of your employees gave my mother that deal. So whoever done it; that needs to be taken up with your employee. Period. That’s not my mother’s fault.
The lady at the drive-thru is very lucky i don’t know her name. Because i will definitely be reporting her to corporate. Regardless; i will still file a complaint.
In conclusion; work on your...
Read moreI am a food critic that tries sandwiches from all around the metropolitan Atlanta area, and I had one of my close buddy’s tell me about this place called Schlotzsky’s in Athens, Georgia. So, I decided to plan a trip to come to Athens and try this sandwich shop, and the second I walked into this place, I noticed that the atmosphere was electric. The people in there were extremely nice when I was having a hard time deciding what I wanted, and the kind lady taking my order suggested “The Original”. So, I got it and sat down and when I got my food I could already tell that it was going to be good based on the aroma of the sandwich. It had smoked ham with Genoa, which was amazing. Also, it had cotto salamis, cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese, olives, lettuce, tomatoes, red, onions, mustard, and their signature sauce which was to die for. Overall I would rate this place a 8.7 out of 10, and the only reason I would not rate it higher was because the bun was a little soggy with all of the sauces and juices...
