If you are planning on coming to Athens, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. We are currently in this hotel staying the night as I write this and I am furious! First, the hotel keys to our room have not worked, and we have had to go to the front desk each time to have them reprogrammed just to get into the room. My son was planning to sleep in the pull out sofa only for us to find no bedding at all in any of the closets. My parents are staying on the floor above us, and they also did not have extra bedding for the pull out bed. We went to call the front desk only to find that neither phone in the room works. My son walked down to the front desk and asked for bedding, and he was given two pillows and one sheet for the pull out bed. The employee at the front desk said that was all they had because they had given it all out to other customers. My husband then went back down to the desk to ask for clarification and make sure my son had not misunderstood anything. Then stated that having no bedding is unacceptable as we were being charged $200 to stay the night. He was not rude or inappropriate in asking for the extra bedding. The employee became belligerent and started saying to my husband to “just go to bed” and that he’d already said there was no more bedding. The entire time my husband was walking through the lobby and up the stairs, the employee was yelling at him to “go to bed”. My husband walked back down a second time to ask for a manager, who was not here. Then asked for the employee’s name and took out his phone to record the employee’s name. The employee became irate and told my husband that if he would not put his phone away that he would call the police and that my husband could not be recording any part of this and just needed to go away. My husband complied and put his phone away. Even after my husband put his phone away, the employee continued to be rude and belligerent and refused to give his name. And again, as my husband walked away, the employee continued to call out to my husband to go to bed and not come back down. I called Choice Hotels and filed a complaint with the company since clearly the staff here do not care about customer satisfaction. We will be following up on our complaint with management no matter if it is local or regional. We have just discovered that we don’t have enough towels in the bathroom for everyone. Guess we’re just SOL because they probably don’t have enough of those to go around either and won’t be helping to find us any more before...

While picking up the lamp cord to plug in the was a large roach/palmetto bug freshly dead. My wife and I moved the sofa to see if there were more, there was along with Cheeze-it crackers, dirt chunks, and gross pieces of trash. The bathroom door had scratches from a previous guests dog. Say it with me, paint. The bathroom sink was cracked, the towels smelled like mold as well as the towels were not "white". The towels looked like bleach was never used, dirty gray tinge. The breakfast area... This was the first time my wife and I did not eat at a hotel that served breakfast. My wife told the front desk staff Sunday morning about the roaches, sofa, and towels to have the redhead older lady talk down to her with several times interrupting my wife telling this woman what was found. The young African-American male was absolutely wonderful and agreed to what my wife and I found. My wife stopped the woman at the desk by saying firmly, "I took pictures for the owner, this is disgusting, and any room cleaner would have the sense to CLEAN the room properly." Again, the young man agreed. Another guest behind us agreed as she had roaches/palmetto bugs in her room. The night staff, older woman with white hair needs a bit of personality when welcoming guest. The older redhead was rude, Sunday check-out. The young man was all around awesome. We can only hope that he is the actual GM/manager. The only great part of our stay was that our room was at the end of the first floor with no one near us. Again, pictures were taken. Sadly, when my wife went to the front desk Saturday, directly after we arrived to our room, then, the front desk lady could have cleaned the bugs up,used a vacuum, and do on. The, "they must have sprayed " line from the older redhead at check out was an insult especially since we know what riaches/palmetto bugs are This entire ordeal was absolutely unavoidable had the room clesners/management made sure the rooms were cleaned. Sad, when other guests tell your staff that they have the same issue. Sadly, the young man at the front desk had to work with this rude woman all day. He deserves a pay raise and a thank you from the owner for being respectful and kind. Your breakfast needs work... Not...

We were brought through Athens, GA for business. We chose the hotel based on the reviews compared to others in the area and it had a indoor pool for the children to swim in while I was working during the day. The first impression was, there must be a sewage leak somewhere because the common areas of the hotel smelled so bad...turns out after going through previous bad reviews this is a on going problem. The room we went in first had a stained sheet on the bed and a poop smeared hand print on the wall near the toilet. They were helpful at the desk and gave us a new room which I inspected before moving our stuff. The regular things that needed cleaning were clean but they didn't pay attention to walls or furniture. I quickly went around cleaning what I hope were coffee and food remnants off the walls before my wife inspected it. It was pretty late at this point and I didn't know what else to do. Final thoughts are...it's a really nice hotel but either management or the owners are preventing good management of the hotel. Maintenance was terrible everywhere you looked things were just rigged up. The carpet in the hotel was installed by amatures it wasn't stretched so it had loose humps everywhere. Also not all the elevator buttons worked so you couldn't go to the 3rd floor unless you held in the button (had to figure that one out) toilet paper holder was broke off and there were mildew stains around the tub. All these things could have been fixed but they aren't. The rooms did smell better than the common area of the hotel. THIS Hotel was for the money the second worst hotel I have stayed in not because of age or economic placement but because of bad Management possibly caused by the owners. There is no way I would allow a hotel I owned to be this way. This hotel was priced at $250 per night. I didn't take pictures of everything I saw. I'm disappointed such a nice hotel building that could be really nice is managed so poorly.

So let me start with the good part. The staff was very friendly and the beds were very comfortable. The rooms were nice, very clean, and the whole hotel was aesthetically pleasing. The pool looks very inviting but as we were told after checking in because of Covid has been closed down. They are also serving a light breakfast because of Covid which I really don’t understand how putting more food choices makes us catch the virus more. They ran out of syrup and had milk only in the fridge for cereal, no butter no jams not much of anything. They had waffles, cereal, and oatmeal. As you can see from the pictures the elevator inspection is expired since September 2020. The walls in the rooms are so paperthin that we could hear a man snoring next-door and my wife was woken up by the sound of the same man and a female companion enjoying some morning delight. We did stay in two different rooms in the second one had better upkeep on the maintenance. Prior to Covid this probably would’ve had a five star rating. I think they just use the virus as an excuse not to provide certain amenities that would make your stay better. I’ve been in several hotels and institutions that have still offered these things, but safely so as not to contaminate the guests.

This facility is older, but being updated at the moment, so construction is going on. The rooms appeared clean, but upon closer inspection, there were red large stains on our carpet, mildew in the shower corners, the air and beds felt damp. (Several of us got very sick). My husband almost ended up hospitalized with a severe bacterial infection in his lungs. He is still on prescriptions after several weeks. The elevator inspection was 4+ years old. The main part of the facility has beautiful features, but does need the rehab. The breakfast was decent. The dining area seems clean. Inside pool, but the chlorine was way too strong. Very nice sitting areas, an office area, vending machines, etc. 24hr coffee and hot tea. Note: We were there for my mother's funeral. Mgmt was very rude and condescending about the hotel situation and refused us any compassion or compensation for the issues. We won't be back!
