I’d like to preface this review by saying I only ever leave positive reviews online. This is a negative one. I just arrived home for Thanksgiving from Miami and my parents were excited to take me to ZZ & Simone’s for dinner after not seeing each other for five months. The last time they took me to ZZ’s we waited 30 minutes for a table (despite having a reservation) only to find out that half the menu items were unavailable, including all of the pizza because they had no pizza dough. We decided to give it another shot and arrived at 7:30 for our reservation; we waited outside until 7:45 and were then seated. We ordered a bottle of Rosé that came to the table warm and was not good. When we said the wine was too warm, the waitress was kind and offered to bring us some chilled glasses of the same wine. She said the glasses were coming, then returned 20 minutes later and said that the manager, Nick Tuttle, decided that she could not bring us the glasses she’d already offered and we would have to pay for any additional glasses we received. I spoke to Nick, the manager, and nothing was resolved. We ended up paying $200 for warm wine and the worst (burnt) pizza I’ve ever had. I would recommend taking your family anywhere else in Athens for a family dinner. Hopefully we will get some new restaurants in 5 Points that value their guests and provide better service. Happy...
Read moreThe pizza and cocktails were the stars of the menu for my husband and me, here. That crust is fantastic. As a girl from Boston, living in the south, it tasted like being back in the north end for a minute. And how many places in the south have mortadella (Delfina pizza)?!! Such a treat! The Pepperoni also was delicious.
Cocktails were wonderfully balanced. When was the last time you had a Tom Collins you didn't immediately want to spit out of your mouth?! And for as refreshing as it was, that wasn't even our favorite of all the ones we tried! For dessert, the bay laurel Gelato was a delicate herbaceous treat.
We did also try the spaghetti al limone which was absolutely lovely; light and velvety. Our only complaint was the serving size was on the smaller end for the price point. As meatball fanatics, we also got a side meatball which, to us, was a bit too dry and our least favorite of all the things we tried.
Elevating the experience even more was the phenomenal staff. Such a warm, kind, lovely group of people! They made for an exceptional experience. So helpful and pleasant and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be back and...
Read moreWe live locally and have made and canceled reservations twice but today was the day we finally got to eat at Zz & Simone’s. My DIL has raved about the focaccia with whipped ricotta. My hubby wanted the salmon crudite. The only thing to do was get both! The salmon was ABSOLUTELY amazing! For dinner my husband had the chicken parm and I had the nights special, butternut squash ravioli. I’m pretty sure that butternut squash ravioli just like this is what is eaten in heaven and it hurts my feelings that it’s not on the regular menu but if they have it get it!!!!! The chicken parm was very very good too! The service was amazing the atmosphere was perfect! It seemed like you would be able to get a seat outside without a reservation, and being December there were enough heaters that that is a definite option and shouldn’t scare you off if that’s the only available reservation. All of this to say. There’s a reason reservations are recommended at...
