This place is really easy to pass by if you're an out-of-towner. There isn't that much to the green awning and the open sign that never seems to turn off. The lights are always on and the staff will always welcome you with open arms no matter how crossed you are. Once you step inside, you'll come to realize that it isn't too flashy looking. The wood panelled walls are covered in Athens and OU memorabilia The upholstery on the seats in the booths is a little bit stressed if not already torn slighty. The place seems like an absolute dump. Now don't get me wrong, my mother told me never to judge a book by its' cover. That statement holds true here. The food here is pretty good for being a hole-in-the-wall joint in a tiny city in the middle of nowhere. The burgers are pretty good, yeah. The milkshakes are pretty tasty too. However, the kicker for me here is the chicken strips. The chicken strips with some fries, cole slaw, a cup of ranch, and an ice cold Dr. Pepper. I don't know if I have found anything that brings me a greater sense of happiness. Whether I'm drunk after a night at the bars, depressed over a poor grade on an exam, or just need something to eat; that meal and this diner have been there for me. This place is my rock, so stop reading and start eating. USD is...
Read moreThe staff was extremely friendly, at this quaint little diner! Our server was extremely attentive she kept our drinks filled and our food came very fresh and quickly. 12 minutes from the time we ordered to be exact.
We ordered a Philly Cheese steak sandwich that came with fresh French fries. Also, a open face roast beef with mashed potatoes brown gravy and a side salad with blue cheese.
The Philly was flavored perfectly. Just the right amount of diced peppers and onion on the tender moist beef. The bread was nice and crisp on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. A decent sized sandwich for the price. The salad was pretty large size salad. Beautiful crisp fresh ice burg lettuce, tomato was a vibrant red homegrown taste. The croutons gave the salad an extra crisp. Even the dressing had a house made texture and flavor. The open faced Roast Beef was nice and tender bits of juicy beef. A huge scoop of mashed potatoes covered with brown gravy. The two pieces of buttery Texas toast complemented the meal beautifully. If you're looking for a real southern sweet tea that is even better than McDonald's then this is the place to purchase that!
Overall, this place is definitely worth checking out! We will be back again on our way through another time! Highly...
Read more2 stars only for nostalgia. It seemed to be clean but the food is straight out of a can or straight of a bag. It’s like a Waffle House but without the logo. Their corn beef hash was out of a can and doctored up with green peppers. I spent $30 plus tip for something I could have very easily made out of a bag or frozen meal at home. I’ve traveled around the world and thought this restaurant would satisfy by appetite due to the reviews. However, it made me realize that everyone who typically goes in their was drunk from the night before and needing to cure their hangover. It was like a hangover hash experience from a Waffle House. Never going back. The shuffling and calling experience with a hurrying atmosphere makes you kind of feel like you’re cattle herding you in and out. Very unpleasant. They have signs up that they will ask you to leave when you’re finished eating so they can sit more people. The check hit the table before we were done even eating. It’s next to Ohio University so they only care about pumping people in and out quickly. They did keep our coffees full but the coffee...
