We were headed to Athens to the drive thru Christmas lights on a Sunday and wanted to stop for food before heading there. I searched google for places nearby that were still open on a Sunday after 7pm and this place came up with tons of positive reviews so we decided to give it a try and we are so glad that we did. We have been searching for a seafood place for the past 3 years in Texas that could compare to what we grew up with in South Louisiana and we have finally found it. This place is actually better!!! We were sat immediately, extremely clean, waitresses was friendly and prompt. Being our first time here wanted to try as many things as we could. We ordered the crab balls, fried pickles, fish and shrimp basket that has fries and hush puppies , fried oysters, and a boiled platter they have on special that has crab legs, sausage, mushrooms, boiled shrimp that are huge, corn, potatoes, and coleslaw. EVERYTHING was amazing, cooked and seasoned perfectly and the fish was some of the best we have had. This place also knows how to make coleslaw and their sauces perfectly. If you are in the area or passing thru it is a must try. We live 40mins away and will definitely make the drive to eat here again when we want...
Read moreUpdate: on 4/24/24, they advertised for $5.99/pound on their crawfish. I placed a to go order. I was told it would be 15-20 minutes. I showed up 20 minutes later and my order was still not ready because they were busy. So I waited an additional 15 minutes at which time they had my order ready. I was in a hurry and didn’t realize until I got home that they charged me not the advertised price of $5.99/pound, but $7.49/pound. I have called, but got no answer. I messaged them with a picture of my receipt and left a comment on the post that they advertised the $5.99/pound, and again I’ve received nothing. As much as I’ve loved this place and been coming here for so long, I think it’s time I found another place to get my crawfish. Because it seems they’re comfortable doing a bait and switch on their prices rather than just being honest. Sad.
Been going here to get my crawfish for a couple of years now. I was born and raised in Louisiana, but now living here have wanted decent crawfish. And WaWa's has fulfilled that! The owners are always there, greeting everyone, and very friendly. If you live anywhere around the Athens area, WaWa's is where you want to go! I also love their shrimp, corn, and...
Read moreWawa’s Seafood Shack was hopping on a Saturday night after a big rain storm. Most of the seating is outside, there is a dining room, either way you order at the window and they’ll call your name as the seafood is brought to your table! Both my friends are 5 pounds of crawfish each, my wife ordered a pound of shrimp, but could only eat half, she commented the cole slaw was delicious, corn on the cob was buttery & moist, and hush puppies were spicy but just right. Another friend ordered the fried shrimp! She said the batter was great and the shrimp were large. I had the fried catfish with French fries. All our food came immediately out of the boiler or fry pan and was fresh & hot. Soft drinks are served out of large ice chests, and its byob for your beer. A young couple with guitars sang and played some good old country and country rock/folk ballads. It was almost 9pm when we left, I believe usual closing is earlier! This is a must stop for fresh seafood! I’m...
