I was a zaxbys store manager in TN from 09-2012 and I just got hired at the store in Athens for the re-opening. I absolutely loved my job And the store/employees/customers when in the TN store but this new job in Athens was different. I am used to hard work so that’s not a problem, I actually enjoy it but I’m also used to doing my job correctly and having fellow employees that do the same, and im very particular about the cleanliness of a restaurant especially the kitchen. First issue was the disrespect I received from almost every other manager that was there including corporate managers. They were rude and arrogant and didn’t care about anything except getting as much food out as fast as possible.. I didn’t know zaxbys had turned into McDonald’s. 2nd issue was the kitchen, somehow even after the restaurant being closed and remodeled the kitchen was disgusting on the very first day! And the way the food was handled was no where near the standard. Health code violations everywhere. I scraped off 1/4 inch of nasty gunk from the handle of the wing holding unit where the fry guy has to grab it to open it, and with the same hands get the wings or buns with... 3rd was my biggest issue. They required everyone to where masks which is somewhat understandable because of what’s going on these days, but in this situation it can only make things much much worse for the employees and customers.. the masks they made us where were so thick that I could cover my mouth and blow out air as hard as I could and barely feel it on my hand right in front of my face and that is not an exaggeration.. so how can anyone breathe in that thing??? Especially in the kitchen where it stays an average 88 degrees with the AC on blast... I had a splitting headache within an hour because I wasn’t getting any oxygen. Really really unsafe. Won’t surprise me when Zaxbys begins getting sued by its employees for a harsh/dangerous environment. Also the masks were so thick no one could hear anyone speaking even if you yelled, and of course everyone was also wearing gloves and every time someone had to speak they grabbed the front of the mask and pulled it down off their face and then put it back up, and never changed gloves after grabbing the outside of the disgusting masks.. so the two things supposed to help keep everyone safe and healthy are the two most dangerous and ignorant things that could be done in a restaurant.. 3rd things was on my one unpleasant break, I ordered a kickin chicken sandwich meal and it came out with a few drops of sauce on it and then I took one bite of it and the chicken was half way raw.. so I had fries for lunch.. last but not least.. Some of the managers from other stores and corporate were all secretly betting on the employees, I don’t know what about because I did not hear detail but over heard them multiple times talking about it and laughing together.. no matter what it was about that’s not ok, ever. Shame on them. Grown men acting like children instead of being concerned with their employees and customers. Needless to say , my 2nd experience as a manager at zaxbys was the worst job experience I’ve ever had and I knew before the end of the day I would not be working there anymore even though I thought I would be happy there again and would have done a great job with all my experience in the industry.. I’m sorry to all the employees of this zaxbys having to deal with jerk managers, and unsafe working environments. And future customers should consider cooking at home next time they want...
Read moreMy advice is to not eat here no matter how hungry you are. They are not wearing face masks & gloves & NOT following the Covid-19 protocol. There are better places to eat that are safer & following the rules set forth by the Governor of Alabama. I witnessed this first hand recently. I WILL NEVER EAT AT THIS ZAXBY'S LOCATION AGAIN. They don't care about their customers. SIMPLY PUT....THIS PLACE IS NASTY & A BREEDING GROUND FOR DISEASE.
I was contacted by Zaxby's corporate office but I didn't get the feeling that they were putting the customer first over the bottom line of the business. My advice is to AVOID this restaurant until they PROVE they are improving their response to COVID -19. PLEASE if you are traveling thru this area..DO your homework & READ reviews of local restaurants. Stop somewhere you feel safe eating. The folks reviewing these places are locals most of the time. We are trying to HELP you AVOID places who don't care about your safety. We don't want you to remember your visit to AL as the time you contracted COVID-19 & took it home to...
