So we were just passing thru Atlanta tx. at 7:30pm on a Friday night which is 1 hour from our home and rarely do we pass thru here anymore. Sadly we don't have Catfish king in or around Longview tx anymore. They close at 8pm or in 30 minutes so that's kind of a thing to avoid in my rule book but we stopped anyways. The workers were very helpful and friendly. My wife and I both got 7 piece (regular not spicy) fried Catfish plates comes with 2 sides (we had fries & coleslaw) $16 each and an order of excellent onion rings. The picture I posted is the fish leftovers. As you can see the filets are big and they were prepared perfect. Nothing fancy just good ol Catfish in cornmeal batter. The way its supposed to be in my opinion. It was all excellent!
For those who are familiar with David Beards Catfish king restaurants.
They do not have a salad bar.
They do not have an all you can eat buffet.
They do not have David's hush puppies or I didn't see them if they do but The ones they have are excellent and They don't have jalapeno in them so the wife was happy
They do have free beans.
I seen complaints about the buildings appearance needing updated But for those who don't know The rustic log cabin look of the restaurant inside and out was their thing 40 years ago (just like it's cracker barrels thing is now) so it's not a lack of updating or not putting money back into the business it's by design.
The restaurant was very clean including the rest rooms.
So with that being said Did we just catch them on a good night?
I don't know but I doubt it.
Will we be...
Read moreThe service here sucks!! The lady that rang us up was decent but still not professional. Now the little red head behind the counter was so unprofessional and has no customer service in her whole body. We bought a fish dinner and a chicken fried steak dinner both were ordered with a bake potato. They gave us some sour cream and bacon bits for them and told us that the other condiments were behind us. After eating a little of our meals, that were tasteless, cold beans and frozen chicken tenders, we were ready to go. We hadn’t touched our bake potatoes and so I went up to the bar where the condiments were and grab three cheese, one more sour cream and some onion. The red head behind the counter informed me that the condiments were fit to go orders only and not for dinner in. REALLY! I just spent almost $40 for two meals that were sub par at the most and you’re going to make a big deal about me taking a few condiments to have on or bake potatoes that were had not touched.
Let me give you and the owners a word of advice. Focus on your CUSTOMER SERVICE! Because I can promise you if you don’t you won’t be in business for very long. The remodel of your building won’t mean anything if it’s vacant. Get rid of your issues before they...
Read moreI've been a fan of this restaurant for many years. The fish is always fresh and fried to perfection with a minimal amount of batter so you are getting more fish than breading..a requirement for me. I became a vegan earlier this year but I will still eat this fish. There is a small but satisfying salad bar and large pots of beans to compliment the meal. They have a different sort of cornbread or hush puppy. They are shaped like little logs. Call it whatever you like, but they too are cooked to perfection. I've been to 3 of 5 locations I know of: Livingston, Atlanta, and Lufkin. I have gotten consistent quality food and service at each one. This is usually not the case with chain restaurants. The parking is ample, the building is clean, and the staff is always pleasant. I highly recommend...
