I visited this restaurant 2 weekends ago on a Sunday. I intended to actually go to Bangkok station but mixed it with little Bangkok.
My friend and I end up at little Bangkok, small cute, full of culture. We were seated. First thing I noticed, we were the only black people there. All others were white Americans and Asian diners. While we sat and waited for our welcome & drink orders to be taken, I noticed a group of whites came in , were seated and immediately serviced with friendly manners. I looked to the servers just standing and no one attending to us who had been waiting. Finally a man comes by to get our order. Worse experience for someone trying Thai food for the first time. He displayed mockery & disregard toward us. I told him it was our first time dinning here and my friends first time trying this Thai cuisine, so what does he recommend. He blatantly said if you donāt know what you want then I canāt help you with what you want. Then he laughed. I was baffled. I reiterated well we are not familiar with your cuisine so whatās a favorite ? He said I donāt know it depends on you. I was shocked and I picked what I wanted but my friend was still deciding as he wanted help, Really wanted the serverās input. He said to my friend why donāt you just get same thing sheās getting. Excuse me? He was so rude , customer service was 0/10, so insensitive and if I wasnāt mistaken Iād say racist. He also told us that we couldnāt order anything fried bc the kitchen is down. Only for my to hear the other server take an order from another table ( whites) ordering a friend appetizer. When we later were checking out, another guy came to bring the check and I wanted to order to go, so my friend asked a question. He answered but my friend didnāt understand he literally responded in a demeaning tone almost like he was talking to an uneducated person. My overall experience was 0/10. I would recommend this place to people of color bc they seem to look down on some people and donāt treat all people the same. Very sad . Please train your servers on customer service and equal treatments to your guests, especially if this is a family owned business. I was so disappointed by the poor service. And disheartened by the treatment me and my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur favorite Thai food place in Atlanta for 20 years. This has been my go to lunch secret for people I had from out of town on business & they were tired of barbecue. My colleagues from Vancouver, Japan and Thailand, give props to this place. Su and Amy are fantastic and gracious owners and hosts. Su is the chef, and he hand-selects many of the vegetables and ingredients rather than accept delivery. They have consistently been listed among Critics Choice for best Thai food in Atlanta for years. They would probably be the People's Choice as well but they have almost no parking, you have to want to eat here. Expect then to be busy, even during the pandemic, as they are doing a hopping curbside pickup-only business.
My wife and I would have this every month while she was in grad school as our treat meal. We lived nearby and got spoiled on fresh made-from-scratch Thai food, Chinese dishes, and curries.. This is not exactly a local secret, but a less than obvious choice for some of the most amazing food in Atlanta. I have not had a bad meal while eating here and I have had most of the menu. Their food is going to be hot if they say it's hot. It's not Thai hot, but they can make it that way if you would like, just be careful what you ask for, because Sue and Amy are from Thailand. The spicing is brought down for the Atlanta folks. It's complex, rather than punch you in the mouth with one ingredient. Their spicy chicken with hot/sour soup has been a lunch favor of mine for 20 years. A plate of fresh veggies, peppers, onions, basil and chicken. It's hot enough that it forces you to slow down and pay attention to it, but so good that you don't want to stop eating. If I feel like I have a cold coming on I have a plate of this and some hot sour soup and I feel pretty good to go. (pro-tip: that's not okra, it's a very hot pepper.) My wife loves the pad Thai, and we both love their Satay chicken skewers. Their peanut sauce with a sweet cucumber relish is my favorite version of that dish in Atlanta. Try to eat whatever Su has on special, I love the green...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's a cozy little restaurant tucked into a small shopping strip. It's honestly the best restaurant in my area. I went to dine in before for my birthday and the food was incredible. I loved the sweet and sour soup they served as an appetizer. The portions are of a good size and they serve rice with most dishes which pairs great with their curry.
I've tried the Massaman Chicken and it was a complex tasting dish that was hearty and comforting, without a lot of spice.
When I placed a takeout order over the phone more recently, I was met with a very patient young man named Tum who helped me read back the order since my hearing isn't great. I am normally nervous to bother restaurants when I pick up takeout orders, but they were so friendly when I came in.
The decorations inside are lovely to look at if you even have time to, because they're super prompt with their orders. When they say ready in ten minutes, they mean it.
Mr. Tum helped me add some things after the fact to my order (I expressed my apologies at the inconvenience) and he was very reassuring and calming to me. I felt welcome despite being a relative stranger. He didn't even mind waiting while I calculated a tip in my head (mental math isn't my skill and he didn't judge me at all), which I appreciated greatly.
On my way out, Mr. Tum held the door open for me too.
It was a really great experience, especially for someone with Autism and anxiety; finding restaurants that make me feel a sense of comfort and familiarity are extremely crucial for me to be able to fully enjoy what I pay for. The staff at Little Bangkok goes above and beyond to treat every customer with fast and cordial service accompanying fantastic and culturally rich dishes that everyone should try at least once.
The food is a good price, but just a heads up the dinner portions are bigger so they cost more. It's not a big price jump maybe $20 average per person, but some meals you can honestly share. Don't worry though, the lunch deals and specials are great and they are super fast if you're going on your...
