Fabulous little pasta, pizza, soup & salad place with a special vibe. It is a neighborhood fixture with a limited menu and is owned and run by the chef. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday only.
My favorite thing here is the soup. I generally order the soup of the day no matter how split-pea-ish it might sound. Every one of the soups is exceptional. Tonight I was simply too hot to think of eating soup and was short on time. If you go, just order the soup first thing even if you don't like soup. I promise you will enjoy it.
I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs and it was great. Idiosyncrasy Alert: if you order pasta, your server will grate as much parmesan cheese as you like on top of it. However.... that same server will not bring you bread unless you order bread. The server may then bring a basket of bread which your friends might share. Just remember: you will be billed for that bread.
There is a small bar inside if you arrive before your friends do. There is a patio out front shaded by crepe myrtles. It's popular. Tonight most customers were seated there. You must first go inside the restaurant to access the patio.
The clientele is varied but generally young adult. You will see a few Emory students, neighborhood bohemians and families.
I have had many wonderful meals at Osteria, most with very special friends. I...
Read moreI tried this for the first time last night, for a birthday dinner. I was pretty disappointed in the pricing and what was delivered. I had the Mediterranean Linguine and it was extremely salty - almost difficult to finish. The flavors from the actual whole ingredients were totally masked. My boyfriend had the same and had the exact same comment. Another person got the spaghetti and meatballs, and it looked okay but seemed to lack some typical dish spices. They were out of Sam Adams (how?), but did have a decent beer selection otherwise. The food came out too quickly, as in it was obviously sitting there pre-made. For the price point, a little love in the cooking would have been appreciated. There is also a $2 charge for wheat pasta substitute, which is completely ridiculous. The waitress was great though - she was attentive, sweet and quick! I was also disappointed in my dessert, the fig and mascarpone crepe. They stuffed so much mascarpone into that thing that I couldn't even eat it....Others at the table got the banana y nutella crepe and the chocolate chip canolli, which looked delicious. Overall, it was ok, but I don't think I'll be coming back soon. Very disappointed because it is so close to home and has a...
Read moreFor about 20 years, Osteria 832 has been a neighborhood staple. Consistently good. And just plain consistent. Outdoor dining is a charming option when the weather cooperates. The service at Osteria is nearly always excellent and this visit was no exception. And the prices are decent — especially for the skill and quality.
For this visit, one in our party raved about the special: Baci with blush sauce which were cheese filled little pasta sachets called “sachetti”. Adorable. Another had a twist on an old standby — rigatoni alla vodka with chicken in a vodka blush sauce. Perfectly executed.
I had the pork saltimbocca. Oh my. A thinly sliced cutlet of pork wrapped in prosciutto and sage and laid over spinach and toasted potatoes, all in a light and delicate pan sauce with a mild lemon flavor. My only mistake was not saving some of my bread to sop it up.
If ever there is a complaint about Osteria, it has to do with poorly behaved children—not the food, nor the service. Not this time. Everything just worked.
In short, Osteria is a gem. It’s hard to go wrong dining on their lovely patio on a mild...
