I went to my first showing at the Plaza back in March to see The Shining in 35mm. From the moment I walked in the building I knew I was going to love this place. And I do. Every time I go to the Plaza it’s the highlight of my week. It’s more than just a theater. It’s a place where people who truly deeply love film gather to share that love. To go out and see a film they could just watch at home for free, because when you’re together with people who love that film as much as you do, it makes it the most magical way to experience a film. Where a packed theater is hanging on to every word spoken, no matter how many times they’ve seen it. Or discovering something completely new that they could only find at The Plaza. I only knew what Hundreds of Beavers was because I saw a trailer at The Plaza, and realized I need to go out of my way to see this. I don’t feel like you just see a film at The Plaza is what I’m trying to say. You truly experience it in the highest form possible. There’s no pretension at The Plaza either. They play to the whole tapestry of film and shun no genre. You will watch high brow art house films and low brow bloody horror films and both will be packed with people. It’s hands down my favorite place in Atlanta. I’ve seen so many of my favorite films ever and each time I see them at The Plaza I appreciate them so much more, because it reminds me why I spend so much of my time watching movies. They’re the greatest thing we ever came up with as a society and there’s no better place to experience that than at The Plaza. (Also the staff is always cool and love talking to them...

Positives: Only place in town that plays certain indie genres, especially horror, sci-fi, etc. Classic, historic theater has been beautifully restored Comfortable seats Reasonable-ish ticket prices
Cons: Management has been heavily criticized for various gaffes, poor online presence and attitude issues. Several beloved film series such as Splatter Cinema were driven away. It must be said, but the popcorn just isn't very good (minor quibble)
Whether you attend, then, really is a factor of how much the reputation of the management means to you vs. how much the programming matters. Things here can be run rather haphazardly, and they've certainly done some stupid things, but I ultimately don't see how you could choose not to support the theater. There's not a viable alternative that offers a similar experience and shows the same kinds of movies. I've seen many things there in the last 8 months that I wouldn't have been able to see anywhere else. Perhaps if there was another grand old movie palace showing indie films I wouldn't go to the Plaza quite so much, but as is, it's a business that movie-lovers should be patronizing if you want to see these kinds of films making it to local...
Read moreI just Love this Theater!! The atmosphere is that of felling like you're going back in time..It's been open since 1939, with plenty of Nostalgia and history to share, There's a total of (3) theatres with a Larger Main one on the bottom floor, with#2 and #3 just above the floor with a wonderful cozy feel..It's just a small staircase to walk upstairs to get to #2 and #3 Theatres, but easy to get to and navigate.. There's plenty for everyone to do, even if you just want to relax for a bit before you go into your theatre too see your movie... ALSO, there's even a photo booth as well..It's $5.00,(cash), or $7.00, using a credit card, but well worth it.. You'll get 4 nice (black and white) pictures in a nice traditional style of photo booths... Always fun and cute to do..I had a large popcorn and a bottle of Coke, total price for this just under $11.00..quite reasonable for me, I was there to see The movie called (The Menu), which is a newly advertised and released as well...((This is not your ordinary movie theater at ALL...)) There's plenty of tradition and style modern feel to this place...Give THIS establishment a wonderful chance to impress you, the way it ALWAYS has for me.. Wonderful time and enjoyment, thanks again...
