So the restaurant itself is just lovely. The food good. But the service left a bit of a negative taste. When I arrived I was seated on a lovely patio. Once I was seated, I sat for about 10-15 minutes. No One, checked on me, asked if I needed water or anything. Looking on the bright side, I assumed it was because my friend had not arrived so I didn't sweat it. Finally she arrived, but still no one checked on us so I eventually asked a server if they could find our waiter. (By the way I later found myself envious of that waiter's tables as he was constantly on the move tending to his customers). Eventually our waiter came and I thought we'd be good from there. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We waited very long for pretty much everything. Our food wouldn't even come out with all the request together. I tried to tell myself, maybe the guy is new. To give an excuse for the poor service. At one point someone else did refill my friend's lemonade. My water, however, was never refilled. I wasn't even asked if I wanted a refill. The waiter did ask if I wanted a Togo plate after my last taco sat for a while. But even that took forever to get to us. When he was ready to bring the check and take our cards, that was the fastest we had gotten anything this entire visit. Now here's where things got really interesting. The table next to ours had just seated a couple. Our same waiter was there quickly. I don't remember them having to call for help in finding their waiter. And to add to that, he had went back to that table about 3 good times before we left after paying our checks. The other issue, I'm Black, and my friend, though she doesn't look it, is also a minority. The table getting the quick service, was a white couple. I hate to call a biased situation out if it isn't biased, but it is very hard to look away when you had bad service from the moment you sat down and try to make up excuses for the person hoping it's just his first day. Then all of a sudden, one table over, is getting the best service. I tried to reflect my disappointment in a tip under 15% but my acquaintance wanted to be nice and make up for what I chose to leave out. Therefore I don't know if the lesson was learned. She did write on his ticket "please notice everyone" in hopes to give him a private quick lesson. But as one who wanted to bring my husband to the establishment one day just because of the cute date night I thought it would make, I am now weary of the idea. I'm in an interracial marriage, and we have had issues with restaurants just because of that. Now I am concerned of bringing anyone else to this restaurant, even though it is placed in an area that seems accepting to all. At this point I can't really tell a difference from other places that have left negative experiences on myself and family. I hope this young man will do better with future customers. Everyone deserves good service. Especially when they are giving you their money. Btw... I freaking LOVED the guacamole. It was overshadowed by my bad service. But I have to say that it was amazing. Better service would make it...
Read moreI don’t think its a bad place, but the experience was not worth going back. Server Jesus brought the wrong drinks to the table and blamed us for it, since he asked us what he thought we said.
The moment the drinks were delivered, i verbally said “No”. he walked off. after five minutes of waiting on him to return he was advised of the mistake. instead of correcting it he states “well i asked you if that’s what you said and you didn’t say it was wrong”. i told him he need to correct the issue or get his manager. he insisted, it was our mistake and i corrected him on his error of making it our mistake and told him if he’s not replacing the drink to just get his manager. I was not willing to listen to how it was our mistake when we didn’t push a drink order button, nor did we make the drink.
A lady who stated she was the manager showed up. She never gave her name so i’m not sure she was, as in my experience most managers do. Nonetheless, she states that it’s their policy not the take drinks off the bill or take them back when they have been brought out. Essentially saying it was our fault as well. I then explained that we didn’t press the order button for the drinks or make the drinks, so there is no way that this has to automatically be our fault.
I’ll digress for a moment to also say that servers attempted to give food to us three times that did not belong to us. We hadn’t even ordered food yet, just two drinks and guac. So if they didn’t know who they were serving the food to, how could we simply not been given someone else’s drinks.
But back to the issues at hand. As i further spoke with this manager i explained more than not correcting the drink issue the biggest problem was Jesus making it our fault but he could not prove it was our fault, we just had to take his word and their policy. And we just had to take his word that he heard us and that he correctly order the drink. we we’re not asking for free drinks, just replacements of one of the two drinks that were delivered incorrectly. telling me that is was my problem was the problem. i then told her that i was done and wanted a to-go box for the guac and chips, and the check. She asked me if i wanted to order food. I then restated what i said, to-go box and the check.
Needless to say, my review is totally based on the experience, not the food. Sadly, i wasn’t there long enough to know what it taste like. There’s too many options to worry...
Read moreWe had a party of 3 at 8:00 pm on a Saturday. There was an hour wait, but it ended up only being 20 minutes! We sat inside and it was very loud. They said there would be a 90 minute limit on the table, but because we were there so late, they didn’t bother with the limit and only kicked us out by flashing the lights when they were closing at 10:30.
They apparently have some secret weekly menu, but it’s just whatever is on their Instagram. The problem is that they don’t list the prices.
Here’s what we got for drinks: Cazuela ($14): It was basically sangria when what I really wanted was a margarita, so I was disappointed. Black Diamond Premium ($20): On their “secret menu.” Very pricy and very fancy presentation with a cocktail bubble/vapor cloud using a cocktail smoke gun. I didn’t try it, but my friend said it was very good. Rosa Negra ($14): My husband subbed regular tequila for the mezcal. It was your typical margarita. Pretty good.
Here’s what we got for food: Ceviche Jalisco ($18 + $0.99 for the aioli): Very good. Nice presentation. Ridiculous that they charged us for the aioli. Full Order of Guacamole ($16): Your average guacamole. A full order did not come with THAT much guac, especially considering it was $16. Full Order of Cheese Dip ($8 + $0.75 for jalapeños): Good queso, but again, ridiculous price for the size and that they charged for the jalapeños. 6 Street Tacos ($3.50 each): We got al pastor and carne asada tacos and they were good. I only ordered one taco, but they gave me two and of course they charged me for it.
The food was good. The presentation was made for Instagram. The prices were ridiculous. Our waiter was Miguel. He was really good at making sure we were taken care of, and he was also very good at upselling, so beware.
Even though we stuck to appetizers and street tacos, it really added up, especially with drinks. Overall, it was a good experience, but just know that it...
