As far as I'm concerned, my search for Atlanta's best gluten-free pizza is over. I was heartened by the praise of Pielands' GF crust and found them to be overwhelmingly correct. On the menu, the sole GF offering is in the form of a square personal pan size, and it includes one topping. Additional toppings can be added for a charge (though celiac diners beware: none of the toppings are safe). I wasn't sold on the look of things when the pie first came out since it looked heavily browned and burnt, but the taste was outstanding. The sauce is sweet in a recognizably NY-style, with a crust that I wouldn't have known was gluten-free if I hadn't ordered it myself. It was crispy with good chew, and the Italian sausage I'd chosen as my topping was savory without being too salty. My husband ordered two grandma slices from the ready pans, and I'm afraid he was less than enthused with his choices. Both of his slices were floppy and oily. After tasting mine, my non-GF husband remarked that he should've ordered one for himself too. We both loved the chef's salad, which was a healthy serving and surprisingly robust with toppings like olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, cubed cheese, sliced salami, pickled onions, and pickled peppers. It was a riot of colors in a bowl and a great starter for our meal. Service at the counter was brisk and business-like, though they were happy to answer whatever questions we had about the menu. They bring the food to your table (which has a dedicated pizza stand! I love little details like these), but you bus your own tray and trash afterwards. Inside, the restaurant has a casual, retro dive-bar feel, with 80s tunes (at least while I was there) and even a Ms. Pacman game machine in the corner. There are a few tables for dining in, and several tables out on the sidewalk for those who prefer to eat outdoors.

I'm not patronizing this establishment again. For the prices they're charging, you shouldn't have to deal with the entire inner portion of pizza being soggy. This is because of two reasons, based on my experience working in a pizza place: 1) the sauce isn't evenly dispersed across the dough, and is clumped in the middle, so the inside dough takes longer to cook than the outside. Two, the dough itself is too spread out and thin in the middle which exacerbates the problem. It doesn't cook and remains raw and gummy. The result is gummy thin dough that is soggy with sauce in the entire half-radius of the pie. The picture I'm attaching is after I tore the inside of the pie and it is just gummy and soggy. My advice: invest in training your staff, especially teenage staff, in consistency and quality control. The cost of doing so will pay off for years because for every customer who walks through your doors, a larger percentage you will retain as life-long customers. If you can't maintain quality control, then lower your prices. Otherwise people will feel cheated for what they get, but if they pay a lower price for a sub-standard product, at least you're not cheated for what you're paying for. At your prices there's no excuse for not having consistency in your product.

Everyone I know wants this place to be a success. My first visit suggests they have some work ahead. Sorry to say my 45 minute late pizza was missing cheese. I dare you to find the “extra” Romano that I ordered and paid $3 for in the photo attached. At 32 bucks, not delivered, and not including tax/tag/title, no way this pizza can compete with the local established restaurants like Osteria or Varuna Napoli. The extra wait from the promised pick up time only added insult to injury. I get that everyone can back up on Friday evenings, but the kindest thing I can say is that Pieland is still working out their processes. More unfortunate news is that the square pizza is not the Sicilian style thicker crust you might expect: look for thin and crispy but square. If you go with the square pie, expect a dense and unremarkable crust. Maybe next time try the round pizza; it looked especially solid in white. In better news, the diavolo sauce was excellent and well balanced, and the pepperoni was great. So they have glimmers of hope. My suggestion is give Pieland a little while to figure out their front and back of house. Hopefully they succeed.

Updated October 10, 2025 I’ve been back at Pieland for a few first dates recently, and I have to say, it’s still the best first date spot around. This place never disappoints. The food is always incredible, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it’s located in a safe, friendly neighborhood. I genuinely feel at ease here every single time, which is exactly what you want when you’re meeting someone new. This time around, I had the pleasure of meeting the new GM, Nick. He’s absolutely fantastic. He noticed I’d been in twice over the weekend and took a moment to introduce himself. When I mentioned that Pieland is my go-to for first dates because I feel so comfortable with the staff and the vibe, he smiled and said, “I know exactly who you are, the last GM told me about you. I’ve got your back, and so does the team.” Mary one of the team members who is always at the front when I am there is always acknowledging me by letting me know she knows that I’m there by complementing me on my outfit and making me feel seen and safe every time I walk in for my date. That kind of personalized care and support is rare, and it means the world…especially in the dating world, where finding a place you feel safe and genuinely welcome can make all the difference. If you're looking for a spot for a first date (or honestly, any date), I can't recommend Pieland enough. Great food, great people, great energy. Thanks again to Nick and the entire team for making me feel so seen and supported. You’ve earned a lifelong fan, and loyal customer.

Pieland is my favorite pizza spot in Atlanta....hands down. The pizza is to die for. Everything on the menu is amazing and the staff is so friendly. The staff makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. I love walking into there smiling faces. The smells and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are at grandmas house on Sundays. If you haven't tried this authentic Italian pizza...you must stop in. 100% Verified from an 100% Italian. I'll be there tonight and tomorrow. The Noni is always my first choice. But everything they make is delicious. FYI if you are gluten free, my friend tried the gluten free pizza and told me "This is the best gluten-free pizza I have ever eaten. Hands down. Nothing has compared" True statement. PS: A huge thank you to Tommy, Jacob, KK AND sjoerd. This place is my Cheers. If you stop in, I bet you will feel the same way I do once you take your first bite...

My husband and I got the a few slices of the green granny and also a slice of the garlic white. Both were okay. Crust was a little thin and it just wasn’t what I expected overall. The wings were undercooked and the skin was rubbery. Additionally, my husband and I stood in the lobby a while waiting to order and then a white woman came up and was immediately able to order. While still standing there another employee came up and asked that same white woman if she had been helped and never asked us. I won’t assume racism but I can at the very least I”say that there should be some coaching involved about how to address customers in the lobby. We drove 45 mins to try this place and will not be back.

Edited response to owner- if this truly is the owner responding then I am disappointed. Instead of taking accountability you immediately got defensive. Instead of trying to gather the facts of the encounter you attack someone who visited your business. The fact is that my husband and I were overlooked TWICE. In my initial review I said it could have been something else, but race was a visible difference between the woman who continued to get service vs myself. If there are two lines( a new visitor would not know this) a simple greeting to every customer when they enter the store with something like“ is this for here or to go?.. okay order when ready” can avoid this mishap . There IS an opportunity for development here and i hope you can receive it. I’m not sure what bringing up other ratings has to do with it, but I am going to share my honest feedback. Since you brought up previous reviews, it should be noted that other people have similar thoughts on the pizza, wings AND about being ignored. Being a small business owner, I encourage you to do some research on the psychology of reviews and then coach your employees based on that research. Everything included in my original review was a fact and I will not have it minimized because the owner cannot take feedback. Please learn from...
