Poor Business Practices
My Family and I (4) bought a VIP table to enjoy entertainment by Asiahn Bryant on the Motown label and a DJ which I can’t remember his name. The show was published to begin at 6:00pm. We arrived 10 minutes prior to. We attempted to be seated we were quickly informed that the show was pushed back 15 minutes and had to wait. The entertainment was upstairs and I guess dinning was downstairs. So we waited 25 minutes until 6:15 and attempted to get seated again but this time with success. Little did I know that’s when the true problems began. The table selection was great. No complaints there. We took our seats at the South America table and listened to the DJ until Asiahn to come on stage. 7:00pm and on singer. 7:30 and no singer. 8:00 and no singer. Mind you were still being entertained by the DJ which is not what I paid for. 8:16 Asiahn finally makes an appearance 2:16 late. Believe me I was livid at this point and just couldn’t enjoy anything she put out that evening. She obviously didn’t arrive early enough to do a sound check because she was doing that during her performances. It took her three songs to get the sound check completed. By the fourth song my sister said she had a nice voice. Maybe so but I just couldn’t get into it at all. My mother said she enjoyed about three songs and my husband said he only liked the last song preformed. When she completed performing the last song she announced to her audience it was her final song. The audience yelled out a couple of additional songs they wanted her to sing. Asiahn had the audacity to say “Come on guys. I’ve been singing for an hour.” I couldn’t believe it. She was 2:21 late. I felt it was the least she could do. I was too appalled. I wanted to walk out at the :45 minute mark but my sister had some physical challenges and I didn’t want her to struggle to walk up two flights of stairs and walk back down for nothing. Also we wanted something to eat and were informed that we would have to go downstairs to eat food. It was not permitted on the second floor. Tremendous loss of money if you ask me. The floors are hardwood except where the tables are situated. The floors downstairs where eating is permitted is hardwood. Now I don’t know if this is a common practice for Smith’s Old Bar but if it is get it together management. If the artist was late that is unacceptable and penalize their pay. Now lastly her LGBTQ followers were true to her and willing to put up with her shenanigans. I can sincerely say I will never spend hard earned money on Asiahn Bryant. I can also say it would have to be a fantastic artist to get me back to...
Read moreOne of the very special and last neighborhood bars and excellent small venues. Tucked tightly in the bend of the curve on Piedemont road just before Monroe, it is easy to miss if you not sure where to look, especially at the quick pace of traffic on that road. But all that know and frequent this special place love it for its warm, dark, cozy and friendly atmosphere. Smith's Olde Bar essentially is made up of 4 rooms:The Bar, Atlanta, Game and of course Music room. The Bar Room features the main bar which is the first thing you see when you walk through the front doors and showcases a beautiful mahogany bar and a of number tables and chairs. The theme of the entire joint is prominently represented here and looks of a mash up of "Cheers" hand me downs, frat house chic and TGIF's rummage sale odds and ends. Which simply means it is very eclectic and interesting. The food is good standard pub grub, but on Wednesday's and Thursday's they offer Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, which is an interesting alliance since Fat Matt's is right down the street
For over 20 years The Music Room at Smith's Olde Bar has hosted thousands amazing popular and up and coming acts. This tiny venue boasts its capacity at 300, but that would be a tight fit. Nevertheless, the room has very good sound and because the stage is so close there is an awesome intimate experience with every performance. Chairs and tables are reserved for those ponying up the extra dough to have a sophisticated seated evening, all others must stand with drinks in hand. And that ain't so bad as there is a full bar and nice people to serve you delicious drinks.
The Atlanta Room is Smith's special events room which can be reserved for various occasions it has the capacity to hold 100 guest and can outfitted to suit your desires.
The Game Room is just as it states, a room filled with various video games, a jukebox, dart alleys, foosball, and pool tables. And if all of this wasn't enough Smith's has a DJ spinning on Fridays and Saturdays til almost the break of dawn. Bottomline, Smith's Olde Bar is an entertainment emporium of food, drink, music, dancing and games galore. You be hard pressed to top this legendary...
Read moreI was at Smith's Olde Bar for my dance studio's event January 3rd. It was a busy night as the Steelers were playing, and the main floor was packed with football fans. The only space available that wasn't reserved was a stool at the bar between two parties. My husband was able to get the bartender's attention, and even though it was a hectic night, she was all smiles and cheery helpfulness. I was impressed with how she not only kept her cool, but she was so friendly, even when calling out to give us our food from the bar. Awesome service.
I got a BLT, and it was just as a BLT should be. Crunchy on the outside, mayo on the inside, and not skimping on the B, the L, or the T. (Of course not skimping on the bacon is the most important, but I was glad to have a well balanced sandwich.) Curly fries came with, and they were your standard tasty curly fry.
Our event was in the room on the second level. We were packed full with our own bartender and waitress for the whole room. These ladies, too, kept their heads and seemed to do a great job with the crowd. Up in our private room, the cozy atmosphere lent itself to a mounting energy within. Cozy and perfect. Down on the main floor, folks were standing where they couldn't sit to be a part of the Steelers crowd and enjoy the game. If I were a sports girl, I bet it would have been a good time.
I got a White Russian (sans vodka) from the bar on the main floor, and yes it's a mild drink, but I loved it. That's all I tried alcohol-wise for the evening, though.
Major plus: the women's bathroom I visited was very clean. My only complaint with Smith's is how small the parking lot is and how you usually have to park across the street and the shopping strip, but my husband date dropped me off at the door, and I didn't have to walk far. Great service, divey atmosphere, definitely a place for the locals, and fun for private events. Good...
