Ali's UpNorth Food and Spirits — Restaurant in Au Gres

I hate that I have to do this. My dad and I rode out to Ali’s for dinner tonight with my daughter. We were unable to find a clean table so we happily sat down at one and patiently waited for it to be wiped and for us to be greeted..no one showed. Fortunately, a waitress wiped down the table next to us so we relocated. Twenty mins go by and the place is starting to fill for dinner. We have yet to be greeted. Five more mins go by and a waitress comes over and hands me a kids menu while informing us that they are out of menus. She then walks away, no drink order, no other option provided. My daughter was getting super fussy so we packed up and left to T&C where we got our food in the time we spent at Ali’s. I have worked at Ali’s back in 2013, I know it gets busy but no one was taking charge of the situation and as fast as tables were walking in, they were walking out. Customer service is key. I hope the new owners...

We stopped in on our way back home since we were stopping for coffee and pickles and were pleasantly surprised! The service was excellent, Lisa tended to our every need! The food was piping hot, extremely fresh and presented very nicely (unfortunately we were too hungry to take pictures). I got the Cod dinner, pan-fried with a side salad/homemade ranch and sweet potato tots, my mom got a Michigan salad and husband got chicken tenders and fries. Chicken was tender, breading on the fish and chicken was thin and could tell they were homemade, ranch was excellent. Fries and tots were perfectly fried. They also allowed us to sit on the outside patio with my 2 dogs and drink our coffee from next door. She even made sure to bring them ice water because it...

I've eaten here a few times and it's always been good food. Tonight it wasn't even edible. I ordered the Walleye, pan fried, with vegetables and the baked potato. The fish was literally swimming in either water or oil/mix, and tasted 'horrible'. Vegetables were freeze dried and thrown under a broiler and potato sent to table luke warm with ONE of those McDonald Tsp butter packs and it was frozen. Only thing that's changed; is i've heard, there are recent new owners. The service is always impeccable but i gave that a 2 because the server clearly knew the meal was not up to customer satisfaction and never asked. I paid my $32 bill- sent entire plate back and will never return. Sad, because these small towns need good...
