Alright, picture this: It’s a calm evening, the kind where the golden glow of streetlights flickers off the pavement, and my stomach rumbles like a jet engine ready for takeoff. The craving for a Whopper is unbearable—no, inescapable. There is no alternative. I must have it.
But there’s one tiny, insignificant, life-altering problem: My driver’s side window is broken. Not just slightly jammed. Not just a little off-track. Completely, irreversibly, catastrophically dead. The button does nothing. The glass remains defiantly still. I pound on the door like a desperate prisoner—nothing.
Panic sets in. How am I supposed to order? Should I yell through the windshield like a lunatic? Should I open the door, stepping out with the dramatic urgency of someone defusing a bomb? No. No, there is only one solution.
I glance around. The drive-thru is quiet. The moment is now. In a move of sheer ingenuity—no, brilliance—I swing the car around, executing a maneuver so audacious it should be taught in driving schools. I pull into the drive-thru backwards.
The workers inside? Stunned. Customers in the lot? Confused. A child in the back seat of a minivan points, his eyes wide with wonder. I imagine he will tell this story for years. “Mom, Dad, remember that hero in the sedan?”
I inch forward in reverse, my head twisted like an owl’s, gripping the steering wheel with the intensity of a man navigating an asteroid field. My passenger-side window—now perfectly aligned with the speaker—glides down effortlessly. Success.
The voice crackles through the intercom: “…Uh, sir?”
I cut them off, my voice filled with the confidence of a man who has conquered adversity. “Yes. I would like a Whopper. No pickles.”
The silence on the other end? Deafening. The respect? Palpable. I proceed through the line, the car still in full reverse, weaving around the bends like a seasoned pro. The cashier hands me the bag, their expression a mixture of awe and mild concern. I nod solemnly, the way a warrior acknowledges a worthy opponent.
As I pull away (still backwards, for consistency), I take a triumphant bite of my burger. Delicious. Worth it.
Would I do it...

Read moreSo I've been living in the same town for about 10 years. I took a break for work and then came back.
Most of the current staff has been there for about 8 years and I think the GM has been there for nearly 15. This particular location is owned by Carrolls.
The whole time I've lived here I've been going to this Burger King. The GM, AM, and SM, and some other higher ups have all known me since before my transition (MtF).
Recently, I've been going a lot (recently meaning last 3 years and a lot being 2-3 maybe 4 times a week). Most of the staff have made the effort to learn my new name, they are all super supportive and use my preferred pronouns, and honestly, if I needed a safe space to go during the day, I would go straight to this location.
A while ago, when a coupon was having trouble in the app, they took my order on the house. Today, I ordered, and then realized I had a $15 coupon from an app issue. So I ordered again. They gave me a joking hard time and chatted a bit even though it was busy.
I feel welcomed, appreciated, and at home.
This is what all BK restraunts should be, and this is one (of many) reasons why I will always prefer BK over McD...
