Disappointing. This is the second time I have been here - the first time was bland, the second time was a disaster - plain and simple. Both times, they pushed a meal called the âqueens roastâ, like it was Gods gift to Aiken, SC. The first time - bland. (Crunch salad - pretty good. Wine - overpriced.) The second time, my companions ordered the same thing (queens roast) - and it was so salty, we couldnât eat it. Overcompensating? Who knows? But it was awful - why were they pushing it so hard??? Anyway - Our reservation was for 8pm - which apparently is way too late for them bc the entrees came out only a few minutes after the salads - why? Bc the kitchen was closing and they were rushing everything out - except for the appetizers, which came out at the same time as dessert. The waiter was as snooty as a classic French, schunchy nosed snot. But there was a reason - they included a 20% tip in the bill! There was nothing we could do! When we complained to the owner, she told us bad reviews were the reason they had a âpublic relationsâ...
Read moreJust needed a snack, so my wife and I split the bruschetta, chicken and garlic flatbread, and the harvest salad. The salad came out first and it was generously sized. Even splitting that amounted to what other restaurants pass off for their salad, so by the time the bruschetta came out we knew we were in trouble. The salad was wonderful and already had me committing to coming back, but the bruschetta⊠well, several hours later Iâm thinking about it and decided to whip out my phone to talk about it. The freshest, best ingredients went into it, elevating my personal bar for what bruschetta should taste like. The flatbread was good, but it think it was so much more subtle in its taste than the other two that it didnât get enough room to shine.
Will definitely revisit for a proper...
Read moreWe stumbled across this very special place while staying downtown for one night in Aiken. (Can't understand why our hotel didn't recommend it.) The décor is beautiful and cozy. It was packed, but we were able to eat at the bar. We enjoyed chatting with Scott, our bartender and waiter. Our salads were delicious. I got the Caesar, and my friend got "The Whitney". She raved about it so much I was sorry I didn't get it! We both ordered crab cakes. Wonderful! My friend had a night cap with something chocolate. Then we got to meet the chef. Scott called her out. She was also most friendly and charming! Hint: these two are the owners and definitely know what they're doing! We floated away to our B&B down the street. So happy and warm inside. Thank you for a...
