Today as part of my celebrations of Juneteenth I visit Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History. She was the first African woman to start a African American School in Augusta Ga. Also first kindergarten and nursing school. Credit for also starting uniform for school sports teams. #education #juneteenth #knowyourhistory #womenempowerment

Her Resume would be Larger than Life!! Lucy Craft Laney is remembered as a pioneer and a model figure of education and social activism, and is often referred to as, "the mother of the children of the people". Among her many credentials is: Founder of the Haines Normal and Industrial Institute, Founder of the Lamar School of Nursing, which was directly connected to the Lamar Hospital for black patients, Founder of the first kindergarten for black children, and she was key in the founding of the NAACP. To honor her commitment, tireless efforts and accomplishments, President Carter hung her portrait (and 2 other notable blacks) in the White House, and she was also inducted as a member of the "Georgia Women of Achievement". I was fortunate to have Corey as my tour guide! For the last 24 years he has dedicated his efforts to her Legacy and is a great source of knowledge. Lucy Craft Laney is a "must" in learning about black social...

I arrived during operational hours. . Walked around on outside took pics walked onto garden area. .meanwhile looking for an open door to get in.. FINALLY came to where the parking lot is and went and rang bell 3x.. Finally a young lady came to door and I asked if Museum was open? She said yes but just a, minute. . Walked away came back within 30 seconds only to ask me if I can come, back at 1pm..I politely said no... and asked why she said tour starts at 1.. then I said is everyone OTL? She, said, yes. . So I said I would, try another day . "NOT !" Now how do you have these great little historical sites .. and have certain hours and days. . Listed. .. and no one around so that a person coming from the other side of the continent came to see Lucy Craft .. Very...

I visited in 2023. I paid to go on a field trip with a group of people with Aiken Senior life services here in Aiken SC.It was a wonderful experience to, see all of the famous people that have lived in Augusta GA such as James Brown, Laurence Fishbone. So many beautiful photos of African American people that I remember studying about in my history classes in public schools in Madison GA such as, Harriet Tudman, Fredrick Douglas. Education is essential. The staff gave us a tour ,and we watched a movie about Lucy craft Laney ,and the legacy that she left behind.RIP God bless Aiken Senior life services. Thank you Almighty omnipotent unlimited God bless my education at excellence to see some US...
