I was very excited to learn that there was a new sushi and ramen place in the area as I eat sushi quite regularly. The reviews were favorable as well, so I had to try it.
What wasn't immediately clear from the reviews I had read is that the place is counter service only (think Panda Express-y and not your typical sushi experience). Obviously this wouldn't be a deal breaker if the food was good, especially with the very reasonable prices. I assumed that I wasn't paying for wait service or atmosphere (the place is quite rundown) but that the food would be fine. We did elect to get our order to go due to the unmitigated screaming of a child who's parents did not seem to care at all and the order seemed to take a long time.
The owners seem like VERY nice people and they even threw in free crab Rangoon for the wait. I will say that the Rangoon is incredibly good! The sushi however was awful. I had a salmon avocado roll which was edible due to how hungry I initially was but I would not call it good. The four accompanying pieces of sushi were visually unidentifiable to me (again, I eat a lot of sushi!), had an extremely rubbery texture and an otherwise lack of flavor was overpowered by lemon being placed between each piece. I managed to choke the first piece down but it was pretty horrible. I took a small bite of the second and couldn't even touch the other two. Even the wasabi they used seemed off - the coloration was weird.
I then tried some of the teriyaki chicken dinner that my mom had (very generous serving size) but all I could taste was MSG and oil. My mom and I ultimately both threw our meals away about half eaten. My mom is one of those people who will eat anything rather than see it wasted and she could not choke this down. Honestly, they'd be better off using higher quality ingredients and charging a bit more if necessary. I like to see local businesses succeed and am highly supportive of them, but I don't think I can...
Read moreTldr; Go here for excellent service and atmosphere. If trying the All You Can Eat, know what you’re ordering first, as not all items is for everyone. If you don’t have that big of an appetite, try their normal menu and order a bento box or a ramen bowl! All of it is delicious and reasonably priced.
Long review Big Sea Sushi & Noodles is a must try here in the city of Aurora. During my visit, I tried the All You Can Eat lunch for 18.35, and it was absolutely phenomenal. Note that drinks cost extra as well, and is separate from the All You Can Eat price. The man who serviced me was polite and cooperative, and the atmosphere of the restaurant wasn’t too intense and is very relaxing.
For starters, I tried the scallops, the crab rangoons, and the chicken skewers. All three items were exceptional. I tried the squid, octopus, and salmon nigiri and also the tempura maki and other sushi items right after. I also tried the roe nigiri. The salmon was delicious, but I will say the squid and octopus left much to be desired. I would not recommend the roe nigiri to anyone, as it was tasteless in my opinion. The tempura and other sushi’s I ordered was exceptional though (I believe the california roll and one of the other specials).
In summary, I warn future customers here about the All You Can Eat simply because of the choices on the list. Choose items that you already know you like, otherwise you might order something that you do not wanna finish but feel obligated to since you will need to pay extra for unfinished food.
On the other hand, if you do not have that big of an appetite, order from their normal menu and order these items: I recommend the bento box and the ramen bowl. I have ordered these two in the past, mainly the steak bento, and they have never disappointed at...
Read moreWould not recommend place old and run down. We had the Gyoza and vegetable tempura both were very greasy. Service was bad and there is a communication problem. Ordered the grilled chicken ramen noodle bowl, and can not eat mushrooms or bamboo shoots (allergies) asked if they could not add them and if possible to substitute with carrots. Man got upset and said in loud tone/waiving hands NO. He said if it is busy they cannot add carrots. Well the place was not busy it was just us and another table so not sure why he said that it was busy and he could not so the substitute. Then we pointed out to him that it was not busy and explained to him again the reason why we wanted to omit the mushrooms and shoots but he continued to repeat himself. Finally he said he would do it. We finally received our grilled chicken ramen bowls. Well I am not sure why this place is getting such good ratings??? The chicken in the bowl was fatty, rubbery, over grilled (meat tasted burn't) didn't even taste like real chicken, the tea was cold, the broth was so salty could not eat. Just returned the food and left, was an all around bad experience. There are much better...
