A mid day break for lunch found us at Ajuua Mexican. The atmosphere is casual and at lunch time fairly quiet. There is ample parking right near the restaurant as well. The vibe is friendly and our waiter seated us shortly after arrival. The chips and salsa are filling... the salsa was tasty, we asked for more. It was half off apps day and chose their guac dip which comes on a fried tortilla bowl with lettuce and chips. Delicious! Drinks were also half off... but we didnt partake as we were still working. There are about 6 lunch options and ample vegetarian choices. We both chose the crispy chili relleno... mine with vegetarian black beans and my friend chose Colorado Chili. The dishes were typical Mexican style dishes. The only cons... it was clear that the Chili Relleno was refried... It came out darker and harder... but was crispy for sure! Thankfully it did not taste burnt. And, I had asked for vegetarian black beans... my dish came out with their non-veg refried beans. Rather than give me a new dish, the waitress just brought out a small bowl of black beans. It just made it harder to enjoy the whole dish. I ended up taking most of it home. The food is not bad... and comparable to most Mexican chains. The service was great... Just not sure I'd come back, as I have a another Mexican restaurant that...
Read moreWe have been fans of Ajuua for years, since they opened on Blackhawk street, near Iliff, and we waited with much anticipation for the re-opening. They're open in their new location, which doesn't do them any favors, since it's not visible from Smoky Hill Road, and not real easy to find. Believe me, though, when I tell you, it's well worth the effort! We've been back twice, for an early dinner, and we have been very very pleased with both the food and drinks and the service. The same group of folks, including the servers and bus-people have all pretty much gone with them, and, best of all, one of them is the chef/owner, who's the mother of a couple of the waitresses. Not enough room here to expound on all the virtues, but I would be remiss if didn't sing praise for the carnitas here. They are so flavorful and tender, and come in many variations, including on some delectable "street" style tacos. Tell your friends about the Thursday appetizer and drink special: half off...
Read moreThis place just keeps getting better! From the server/bartender, Aranza, to the great food, the new location near Southlands has given Ajuua a new beginning, and it shows! I had maybe the best simple cheese quesadilla I've ever had, grilled, crunchy, and chewy and very cheesy with the bonus of having been grilled in butter! It plays so well with their just spicy enough salsa. The very good beginning got even better with the arrival of 4 Carnitas Street Tacos. I've not had better carnitas than what they make here, and served with a big bunch of cilantro and diced onions, and garnished with a squeeze of lime and some avocado, they are stellar! Worth writing home about for sure. The thing I love about Ajuua is they pay attention to the small things, too: the obligatory refried beans and the Mexican rice were outstanding, rich and flavorful and fresh! If you want to taste Colorado style Mexican food at its best, I can tell you, you'll find it here! 5...
