I’m giving 4 stars on the food because it’s hot and cooked right and has good flavor. But the execution is 3 star at best. For reference I lived in Tucson for 8 years and AZ in general for 15 and know good from bad. If you see a salsa bar, a little TV playing futball, and a handwritten list of meats on a whiteboard, that’s a good sign. Too many Mexican flags or all day every day mariachi is not a good sign, but I’ve had some good food at those places too. But anyway, this is your standard drive thru cheap Mexican place. Definitely a toss up with this type of place especially in CO.
And I WOULD recommend it 100%. It’s still better than any American processed crap, in that it’s actual food (most fast food is made by machines in a factory and would not be edible if they didn’t add a bunch of “natural flavors” to mimic the taste of real food). So yes please support this place!
The burrito I just ate was pretty dang good. But I didn’t feel that was when I opened it. It’s like it was wrapped by a 65 year old Wisconsin woman who pronounces jalapeño like jah-pe-le-no (hard J) and had only read about burritos online and thinks of them as “ethnic food”. Seriously I had to try to rewrap it myself and only marginally succeeded as you’ve really only got one shot or it gets messy. The wrap was loose and just imo, like in the bottom 10% of burrito wraps I’ve ever had. It wasn’t a tortilla issue either as the tortilla was nice and pliable and strong, pretty solid in the tortilla dept.
The stuff in the tortilla was actually great. I was very skeptical when I saw the wrap and even more so after the first bite. I ordered a California burrito (not my go-to, but I was feeling it, and tbh only a great restaurant/cook can make a perfect California burrito, very rare).
The dude asked “which one” and that confused me but turns out they offer a Pastor California burrito? Well I decided to try it - I would not recommend! A California burrito is already bordering on sloppy with the mix of sour cream, guac, and pico. Why they would think it’s a good idea to use a braised liquidy meat baffles me. The flavor was solid but it was like a water ballon with meat and fries floating in it. Stick with the carne asada imo.
So restaurant, if you read this: Do not add stuff to your menu that is just a bad idea all around, and especially don’t go out of your way to suggest it (if I order a California burrito make me a California burrito. Pastor adds too much liquid. Try adobada). And have some abuelas come in and teach the youngins how to wrap a freakin burrito. I’ve never had a chipotle burrito wrapped this poorly and that’s saying something.
Also, once you fix the basics, please respect the tortilla. Throw it down on the griddle for 90s a side and get that crispy crispy going for me. Makes such a big difference. You’ll be at 5/5 in no...
Read moreI have eaten at this restaurant since it opened. Finally a mom and pop Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood! I don't have to go to Taco Bell now! At first this place was incredible. Anything you ordered was awesome. They could literally do no wrong. Except they had the worst chicharrones I have ever had. Friendly, inviting and clean as well.
But my once a week obsession with this place has me throwing away the menu now as their quality and consistency of food has dropped dramatically. I was hooked on the pork chop skillet. So much food and the pork chops are to die for. For the last year when I order the pork chop skillet its been hit or miss. Sometimes its one pork chop, sometimes its two. Sometimes its a glop of some pork they probably use in chimichangas or something. Eggs are never cooked correctly but I can overlook that as eggs keep cooking a bit after the grill. Now a skillet should have diced potatoes and veggies right? Sometimes its hash browns. Sometimes its no veggies. This time it was all wrong.
My last and final order was two eggs, one small pork chop, a small scoop of hash browns and zero veggies. When I opened the container (as I always get this to go) I was floored. My wife called them up and all they said was ooops. Offered to cook up some veggies and I could come back to get them. I was about to watch Game of Thrones so going back was not an option and who does that anyway? This dish looked absolutely nothing like their menu picture.
The consistency is bad. I was willing to overlook it if they still gave me pork, eggs, potatoes and veggies in a good proportion. And I have to mention that their green chili is awesome. This last creation from Fritangas looked like a food plate from a prison cafateria. On top of that, as mentioned in many other reviews I read, their overall attitude is insulting. If you are from a certain ethnic group, they will treat you like royalty. If not, be prepared to wait for your food even if you called it in ahead of time.
Guess its back to Taco...
Read moreI’ve been going to this restaurant for a couple of years and never had an issue, up until this point . I was there within the last hour today and waited at least 10minutes after ordering through the drive through before making it to the pickup window (not the issue.) When I get to the window and try and pay for my $16.15 bill for one supreme burrito with a $20.00 bill the cashier states that she doesn’t have change. And this is after she’s already given me the bag of food that is now sitting in my car. I then locate $0.15 and an additional $6.00 so that she would only have to give me $10.00 back and she goes to show me her cash register that only has $20.00’s. She asks me if I have a card which I did not so I then ask her did she want the food back and she said yes so I handed it back to her. Now the parking lot was full of cars from patrons inside and I had at least 4 cars in front and behind me before being able to order. Why a restaurant with a drive thru window doesn’t have change for a $20 bill in the middle of the day on a Saturday I can’t explain. But also, why she was okay with taking the food that had already left the kitchen and building and took it right back is even more appalling. Needless to say, I will not be going back to this restaurant. I prefer authentic and local cuisine when I can trust it but if I have to go to Chipotle just to be able to get my change due when I pay for a meal then that’s what...
