What a sad experience. We came from AZ and friends were coming up to Aurora to meet us. She is restricted in what she will eat so we had chosen something that would work. Unfortunately, they were full so we thought we'd try our hotel (which we loved) and eat at the attached restaurant. We talked about the menu w/the front reservation gal and explained the situation. We saw the kids menu had some things she could choose and it said nothing about an age limit so we made the reservation. Four of us chose one of the signature dishes and my friend ordered a grilled cheese. The waitress said she didn't think we could do that. We offered to pay full price or whatever they needed, it didn't matter to us, we just wanted to enjoy a meal with friends. We had 2 people kneel down to see if this friend didn't see anything on the menu that she could eat... again, we offered to pay full price as it was so uncomfortable as if she didn't know what she could and couldn't do/eat and having a discussion would change things. Then the chef came out and gruffly said, We don't make grilled cheese. We all looked at him, looked at the menu and pointed that it was there. He grumped, w/o asking about her situation or acknowledging that we were happy to pay anything additionally, and said I won't make that for anyone over 12. We said thank you and walked out. I thought... what was the issue? We offered to pay full price? We were embarrassed in front of our friends. The amount of pomp was tragic; not only did they lose a hefty amount from our meals, but made all of us uncomfortable with no rationale. So charge me 15$ (hamburger meal price) for that children's meal. We offered. What on earth would it have hurt. We heard when we returned from Papous (fabulous) that several other groups walked out?? So sad. The saying cut off your nose to spite your face...
Read moreDO NOT RECOMMEND. As a woman who has worked in the restaurant industry since she was 18- I could not believe the level of service, the quality of food and the attention to an issue that this restaurant displayed.
When we first walked in we almost immediately turned around to leave because the place was dead and that’s a sure sign on a Friday at 6:30 that it’s no good...there is no one there to greet you, seat you or offer you a menu until you askf or one. We should have taken that as a hint, but as area residents we wanted to try this place out since it’s close to home and we pass it regularly.
Our waiter was nice enough- apps came out quick and those were fine. Flatbreads are kind of hard to mess up. We ordered salads with chicken and a chicken parm dinner and Mac and cheese for my daughter. The Mac and cheese was fine- again, hard to mess up. The chicken parm was RAW and unfortunately for us, we didn’t discover that until all of us had eaten some, which was because the chicken that came on our salads tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for 10 days so we swapped it out for the chicken parm.
When we notified our server, he took the chicken parm off. Again- as someone who’s worked in the restaurant industry YOU COMP AN ENTIRE DINNER IF YOU SERVE SOMEONE RAW FOOD. I’m typically happy to raise issue over a dinner because I’m interested to see how the restaurant will make it right but honestly I didn’t even have the energy with this place. It was that bad. We paid the rest of our bill, quickly left and made sure to warn another family of four on our way out NOT to go in. They immediately turned around and left. Don’t waste your time or money. This was the worst meal I’ve had in...
Read moreThe highlight of this restaurant is the people. The maître d', Jeremy, is just a lovely and lively guy, who treated everyone personally, as if we were old friends. He was quick to make sure everything went smoothly, and everyone had what they needed. Our server, Taylor, was amazing, even though it was admittedly only his second day on the job. Absolutely fantastic!
As for the food, it was just incredible! We had a few drinks, including Amaretto Sours, an Italian Martini, and a Strawberry drink that I can't remember the name of. They were all fantastic! We ordered an appetizer called the Pretzel Charcuterie, which included a Bavarian pretzel the size of the platter it came on, with Wisconsin Cheese Curds, grapes, and bacon wrapped goat cheese filled dates. There were two amazing sauces included, one was a cheese dip, and the other was a honey fused mustard sauce that was amazing. And I'm not a fan of mustard as a rule!
Our entrees were the Steak & frites, with a garlic airline sauce that was to die for! The steak was slightly overcooked for my liking, but incredibly tasty. My husband ordered the Porterhouse steak, which was absolutely scrumptious, and included an amazing Mac & cheese.
We stayed for quite awhile longer than we normally would to listen to the live music by Hit List. They were talented, easy to listen to, and had a fun and funny show. We left when we felt like we could barely move for all the food we had ingested. The ambiance is lovely, and again, the staff is a highlight at...
