Whenever I’m nearby I always stop by 85°C Bakery Cafe, but this last time I went I left with a negative experience. Originally I went to another location and they ran out of the sweets that I was originally planning to order. I went to the online website and was able to place my order without any problems for the 85°C Bakery Cafe here on Airport Blvd. On April 9th, 2022. Upon entering there was a long line to purchase the sweets but I immediately went standing near to the sign that was for online order/pickups. As soon as I inform the girl at the register that I was picking up my online order that was already purchased and gave my information, she instructed for me to wait in the long line to get helped which took me off guard but I followed as instructed. After waiting in line for a while another worker went to open another register, now the line was going by faster with the two cashiers assisting the line. It is finally my turn next in the line. The associate that was on the left register was charging a customer that was buying 12 of the sweets that I was purchasing, and the cashier that originally denied to give me my online order finished helping out a customer. I immediately took a step forward and the cashier saw me and walked away to a different part of the cafe Then I saw the other cashier and customer look at me and a comment was made that I couldn’t hear before I saw them smirk. At this point, I just felt confused and unwanted as a customer. The customer then left and I explained to the cashier that I just wanted to pick up my online order and my confusion of the matter. He looks aside and sees my order already waiting for me. While handing the two bags to me, he warned me that I shouldn’t be ordering too many items from the online website and that I would need to call two days in advance. I didn’t want to hold up the growing line, so I went ahead and thanked him. At this moment I left 85°C Bakery Cafe with a bitter taste in my mouth. If the online website wasn’t supposed to let me purchase 22 of the sweets that I was purchasing then why was I getting punished as a customer. If that was a problem I would have had a friend order the other remaining amount for me. All I know is that this isn’t how customers should be treated, and I hope no one goes through this...
Read moreThis place went from a 5 star to a 1 star. First time out of the many times we’ve been here, this was the first disappointment. We decided to come way before it closed and there weren’t many baked goods. Nice to bring my family for the first time for a disappointment. Today there are a different set of cashiers and one person in the tea area. The Asian cashier seemed sweet and prompt, the other one wasn’t a good listener. I said I wanted boxes for my baked goods and she only boxed up the cake slices. She put the baked goods in bags and then I had to ask her again if she can put it in a box and then I told her we were traveling. Terrible service. Then the Thai Tea was out and the only options were Regular Milk Tea, Jasmine, and Green Tea. We weren’t told if the Jasmine was milk tea or not so our chosen replacement was clear Jasmine, not Milk tea. Would have been nice to inform us that it wasn’t milk tea. Given that it was a switch, I obviously have never gotten the Jasmine tea here. Have people lost their spirit of working or are they just putting out teas like it was an assembly-line? Further more, I noticed the Jasmine tea was out and saw her take the silver container to the back for a second and come back to add a little more ‘tea’ to the drink. It’s like as if she added water and then just used the water to stain whatever was at the bottom of the barrel to ‘fill’ the rest of the cup. Odd. Are you in the food industry because you love it or because you need a paycheck? Where’s the passion. Coffee jelly does not belong in a tea that isn’t milk; how odd. Very passionless and less joyful this time. Very disappointed in the staff today. Houston is better. Put the jolly staff back there because this staff had no listening skills or enthusiasm. We are not...
Read moreThe manager at this location is an Asian male and is very unfriendly/doesn’t practice good customer service/hospitality.
(My experience in Houston’s large Chinatown at multiple restaurants/cafes has left me not wanting to give any Asian business $$ because of the rude customer service)
Anyway, I came here to this location in ATX, to study for a test and noticed they had buy one get one on Monday’s. despite the cashiers short answers when I had questions during my first visit, I decided to come back on Monday.
It was packed but I found a seat and ordered. During the ordering process, I placed my order with the manager for a large smoothie and then proceeded to change my mind and get a medium. He then lied to me and said that they don’t have mediums.. although I ordered a medium the first time.. maybe they were out of medium cups, or bc I ordered a different drink.. whatever. I also asked him to please hold the second, free smoothie, until I was ready for it so it won’t melt.
He said it was too crowded to do that.
I told him I would wait until the line died down of course before returning for the second one. I did not want it to melt and that I would be at the cafe for at lease two-three hours and surely they would get a break or I would get it before I left.
He did not oblige and told me my drinks had to be made together. I am now writing this as I am drinking a weird tasting, melted/separated smoothie. There has not been a line for the past hour and a half...
This will be my last time returning here. I will go next door to the cafe, study, and get a boba. I can’t enjoy the pastries anyway since they don’t have a microwave to heat them up.. who eats it cold?...
