I recently had the opportunity to visit Chicho's, a lovely Cuban restaurant located in the heart of pflugerville. From the moment I walked through the door, I knew I was in for a unique dining experience.
Chicho's atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a vibrant decoration that evokes the essence of Cuban culture. The walls are decorated with photographs and paintings that transport you to the streets of Havana. The background music, soft and rhythmic, creates the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a delicious meal.
Chicho's staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. From the moment we sat down, we were greeted with smiles and made to feel at home. Our waiter “ Mariela “ enthusiastically explained each item on the menu and recommended some Cuban specialties.
The food at Chicho's is simply delicious. We started with some tostones with garlic mojo, which were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. We then tried the classic ropa vieja, which was full of bold flavors and tender pieces of shredded meat. The black beans, served with white rice, were the perfect accompaniment. Each bite transported us to authentic Cuban cuisine.
The highlight of our experience at Chicho's was the dessert. We ordered a serving of caramel flan, and it was just divine. The texture was silky and the flavor was sweet but not cloying. It was the perfect finishing touch to a memorable meal.
In summary, Chicho's is much more than a Cuban restaurant. It is a little piece of Cuba in the heart of the city. From the authenticity of its dishes to the warmth of its staff, everything in this place is designed to give you an unforgettable experience. If you are looking for delicious food and a cozy atmosphere, do not hesitate to visit Chicho's. You...
Read moreLiving my entire life in Hialeah, where Cuban food for me was just food. I can first say that I am happy that more and more Cuban places are opening up. However, if there is one thing I know is Cuban food. This place just misses the mark, if anything I would call it Cuban lite.
For one, the bread they use is not real Cuban bread, the consistency coupled with the taste is off, I would say it tastes more like a French bread than Cuban. If you know anything about Cuban food, you know the bread needs to be right.
I purchased a few things, one of them being a Cuban Sandwhich. I personally cannot call this a Cuban sandwhich, number #1 because of the bread, but not only that. It did not have the correct amount of ham, pickles and mustard, which tasted more like a facsimile than a real Cuban sandwich.
I also had the pan con croqueta, which other than the fact that they don’t use real Cuban bread and do not add ham, the croquetas themselves I would give a 6/10. Not great, but not bad and the taste is almost spot on.
The pastelitos, oh the pastelitos. First off they don’t offer much, but the little they do offer is pretty off on taste. The guayaba and cheese don’t taste like it’s cooked or heated correctly. It’s hard because I’m not a baker, but I do know what’s it’s supposed to taste like, and that’s just not it. It’s not horrible mind you, it’s a decent taste, but it’s just not up to par.
Overall, I would say this is the best Cuban that I have tasted here in Texas so far, which is not saying much as my other experiences have been pretty bad. I do however look forward to more Cubans coming here and building something that can at least taste somewhat like the food in Hialeah and...
Read moreFirst time in a Cuban restaurant in Texas. Food was hot and delicious. Camila the server was friendly and professional. Top notch. Will definitely come again. Second review 08/02/25 came back again, thinking the first time was a fluke and I was either really hungry or really hot from shopping outside for over 2 hrs....Nopeeee the place was still a hidden gem right in the heart of central Texas...Food was delicious, hot, diverse. If you want your food in 5 minutes not the place for you. This guys prepared everything from scratch and on the spot. Had a different plate this time, no surprise, it was also delicious... My wife, a gringa told me, this place food in comparison with my cooking, makes mine taste like an amateur's cooking, ouch that hurt but I'll get over it. Shut out to Camila the day manager I assumed , Yanellis who was working her butt off from beginning to end, making sure tables were clean and bathroom spotless. The girl at the register, young with glasses could not catch her name but she was also very good and professional. The real heroes, the chef, cooks, sous chefs, salad makers ,dishwashers and people in the background that you don't see but make this place a very special one. Mind you I live 45 minutes away from the restaurant and every time, we are asking ourselves for a great restaurant choice, chichos always come to the top 5 list that we have. Will definitely ...
