My wife and I celebrate Elvis' birthday every year and have done so for many years. We would go to Chuys and celebrate with the Elvis Memorial Combo meal and have Blue Hawaiian drinks in the little commemorative cups. We would pay for the drinks of course since it is required by law that no alcohol can be given away. However, Chuys would provide the combo free to any customers that dressed like Elvis, Priscilla, etc. They would even have an Elvis impersonator at the bar section of the restaurant and it was a great atmosphere. That is no more.
The waiter brought up the celebration promotion to us after seeing our costumes and went to check with the manager. He came back a minute later and gave us the bad news that they were not doing the promotional celebration any more.
You can get Tex Mex food anywhere in Austin, Texas, and anywhere in the United States. It is all virtually the same type food anywhere. In today's market, one had better set themselves apart from the rest with atmosphere, customer service, and any promos that can attract more customers. In this move of not celebrating the Elvis event anymore, this is a set back for the company and instead of attracting more customers, they have subtracted an aspect of customer service that has resulted in a loss of a customer that would visit the place not just on Elvis' event, but also all the other times that we had been there through the years and would have friends that visited out of town and we would take them there to eat. Very poor marketing move by Chuys! It's just another restaurant and establishment in Austin that we will no longer give our time and money to any more. Thank you, Thank...
Read moreChuychanga I have been a Chuy's fan for many years, it's an Austin main stay. Chuy's has a unique and fun atmosphere, from the dog photos to the wooden fish and bright Mexican paintings, it's a fun place to eat. I love the creamy jalapeno salsa, if you don't automatically get it, you can request it with your chips. This location is a bit nicer than the others with a nice garden like outdoor seating area. They also have some interesting interior features like metal palm trees. Another distinction is Chuy's rice and refried beans. The rice is a bit more peppery than your typical Spanish rice and the refried beans have a unique flavor. It's likely the flavors are different because they are vegan, meaning no animal based fats are used, this can be a bonus for those with dietary restrictions. I'm a fan of the chuychanga, basically a chicken chimichanga. Had one recently and have to say I was a bit disappointed. Flavor was about right, but was much smaller, less juicy and with less cheese than I'm accustomed to. Upon my 2nd visit I had a larger chuychanga but a bit less cheese than expected. I guess there's a consistency issue. First time in many years I've had one like this, but could be due to the recent impacts of inflation. I'll have to try again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. My daughter had the tacos al carbon and she was satisfied with her meal. Didn't have it this time around but the queso is also a bit different from the typical. It's a chicken broth based queso and the flavor and consistency comes through. It's worth trying, but personally I like a cheesier flavor. In end, Chuy's is unique among TexMex restaurants and...
Read moreThis chuys changes each time I go:
Some days it’s good some days it’s horrible:
This was one of the yucky times:
I went and waited 1 75 mins for simple fajitas and the staff was in chaos mood:
They did okay ish about refilling drinks and chips,
Had to ask for dip and napkins 2-3 times
but the kicker is that our food never came until the end
when we were leaving,
so I actually had to take my food along with a to go box and the check
at the same time
then I was overcharged for three items that were actually supposed to be on the 3 to 6 PM happy hour
but because the food took so long I actually wasn’t able to get the happy hour price even though I was there at five or before five.
They woulda left it as is had I not noticed.
He then argued with me as to the price and said sorry it’s past 6pm. I was like woah no no no we have been here since 4:43pm.
Thank God we had the text from our table wait app to show him what time we were seated:
He even looked shocked at what time it was and he said “oh wow hang on”.
At that point, I thought he was probably just gonna take it off of our bill and be sweet but he just came back and lowered the price of the bill and said that he had “talked to his manager and was allowed to do it “lol
Duhhhhh!
of course you’re allowed to do it.
We were there before five bro:
I would never go during happy hour again:
I don’t even drink and have not in 6 years .
I think it’s an Austin icon and this one is better by farrrr then any other location as far as food:
If they lose this chef I’m afraid the place will be garbage.
Please keep him (or her or them )because that’s all you got...
