FD's Grill House — Restaurant in Austin

So I visited this place based on some the reviews. Admittedly, I already have a favorite steak place so I already have certain expectations of my steak. So long story short.. the appearance of the place was probably its best selling point. I lived the decor and kinda felt like it had this movie scene vibe. You know I am alllll about service so it started off a little disappointing as we were pointed to our seats and an unhappy, non-smiling waitress brought us our menus kinda tossed them on the table and walked back behind the bar…. She mumbled something like here’s the menu.. can’t quite recall but I do remember locking eyes with my guess as we stared in disbelief. When she came back to the table we ordered drinks… they were as to be expected …pretty standard with a good taste and a little kick. When it was time to order our food we made an attempt to discuss steak options and were advised they only serve one cut of meat …I prepared my self for disappointment. My food comes out and it looks pretty good, nice plate presentation. I don’t know why but I always eat my shrimp first. They were so unseasoned and tasteless, overall unenjoyable. Kinda the same then for the sides. Now my steak “looked” as if it may be on point so I was ready to enjoy! Nope. Super bland and no taste at all. It was hard to even chew, I ordered a medium well done so this steak should have been moist and soft to the chew! Honestly, the meat tasted cheap and did not live up to its cost. Went here for dinner after a change of plans. We had been to the one in Tyler and really enjoyed it. This location, not so much. We were seated right away by what turned out to be the owner of the restaurant. We weren't sure if the hostess had called in or if this was normal, but we thought it was a nice touch. We looked over the menu and the server came to take our order. She had a really blah attitude towards everything. She really didn't seem to enjoy her job at all. I ordered one of the margaritas, which was crazy strong. I ordered some fried pickles, which were delicious. Served super hot and fresh. For my meal, I ordered a steak and requested it medium well. When they brought it to me, it was medium, if even that. We flagged down the guy who sat us (this is when we found out he was the owner) and said the steak was undercooked. He looked and said, oh yea, that's WAY undercooked. He said he'd have it fixed. Maybe 5 minutes later, our server brought me the steak back. Not only was it the SAME steak, it was nearly overcooked this time. We thought that with that mess up and knowing that the owner was aware of it, there would be at least some kind of compensation, offer for a free dessert, or something to make up for it. Nope! NOTHING! Full priced ticket and the owner didn't even come back to see if the steak was prepared right that time. I understand that mess ups happen, but what is important is how the restaurant (especially the owner), responds to that mess up. We definitely will not be going back to...

This place deserves 1000 stars, its that good. We recently moved here from San Antonio and wanted to try a new, locally owned place. I have been an avid seafood hater for my entire life, but when I tried their salmon and catfish I was immediately converted. Everything is so good, I will only eat seafood here. The salmon is to die for, the triple dip appetizer is a must have (especially the spinach dip!) And the dessert is amazing as well. I have yet to find anything on the menu that didn't exceed my expectations. And to top it all off, everything is SO affordable!! Servers are always great and super attentive, the decor and ambiance is neat, clean, and beautiful, and food is always amazing, drinks too. My boyfriend loves their frozen margaritas. We will definitely be frequenting this place often, we've been back here at least once a week since we tried it the first time! The owner is super nice and you can tell she really cares that everyone who dines there feels like a guest and is treated to an amazing experience, which we always have. I can't wait to show my family from San Antonio this place every time they come to visit us up here. We LOVE this place!! Dine here, not the cheddars across the street where you'll get mediocre service and overpriced food. At FD's you'll get an amazing experience as well as the chance to support a locally owned business. We will be here at least once a week for as long as we...
