Our family of 5 decided to try out the dim sum here as we were missing the NY/Houston dim sum scene and Austin no longer had any good dim sum places. Everything was going smoothly until it came time to pay the bill. The manager/owner explained to us before we paid that the 20% tip was already included in the price of the check. My husband politely nodded and paid. When it came time to sign the credit card receipt, he drew a line in the tip row (because it had already been included), wrote the total at the bottom and then gave it back to the waitress. As he’s waiting outside of the restaurant, the manager had the audacity to run outside and say that they “forgot” to charge something on our bill. We assume that one of the employees saw nothing written on the “tip” portion of the credit card receipt and may have thought that we did not tip! We aren’t sure why the manager would even question us as she was the one who gave us the check initially and stated that the tip was already included in the total. My husband was polite the whole time as she “double/triple checked” our receipt. After about 10 minutes she apologized when she realized that everything was charged correctly and went back inside. I would like to say that while we have no problem with tipping and usually tip very well we do feel that some restaurants are abusing this system. The amount people tip should depend on the level of service they feel they received and should be able to be adjusted, not simply included in the total bill. I have also never heard of anyone chasing anyone down let alone accusing them of not tipping especially if they were the ones that made the mistake. Service aside their food wasn’t too bad. Unfortunately, they don’t have a very large selection of dim sum and the...
Read moreOnly if I could give ZERO star for the service - No service. Came here 3 times since last June (2020), twice during brunch Dim sum and once for dinner, two out of three were seated at the table with this very unhappy waitress. Literally no smile at all on her face, no greeting not attentive…. First time I thought she was having a bad day, but the 2nd time she’s the same way… seemed angry. We needed couple more minutes to look at the menu, but she never came back for about 10+ minutes till finally I called her attention while she passing by our table several times without looking at us. Never came back to ask how were the food nor needing anything else. No acknowledgment when I politely ask for refills on water, and no surprise, never came with check at the end. I had to walk to the register and ask for to-go containers and our check… sigh! I’m really disappointed of the service. We drove across town here for the dim sum at dinner time, but it’s not really worth it at all. We could get Americanized Asian food anywhere w/o being treated like this. So we won’t be back. As for the food, dim sum were good, dinner dishes were mediocre, jalapeño chicken was flavorless. Portions were okay for the price. Typical. Give 3 stars...
Read moreThis place has declined rapidly since it first opened up. I used to work here in 2017 for a few years and eventually became bar manager. Food was immaculate. The chefs would work with allergies. The bar was awesome. Great wine selection and we all were taught about the products we were selling. The staff was friendly. I’ve gone back various times with friends and family. Both for dine in and take out. All my favorite dishes are now flavorless. They aren’t willing to work around allergies. Even though I know how dumplings are steamed and I know that they can steam chicken and shrimp separate. The staff is unfriendly. This is part of Westlake and you do not receive Westlake service here. Their frozen dumplings are great, but skip the soup dumplings. Most any other dish is just a disappointment at this rate. Heartbreaking because it was my most favorite restaurant and every time I go back I’m so disappointed. so I probably won’t return unless it’s for dimsum. Because again. It’s all...
