First I must lay out that I don't even like kolaches. Hopefully that adds more oomph to how genuine my five stars are.
Dough - I have never had a kolache that didn't have too much bread. Enter - Kerlache. What a genius idea to keep the housing thin so that you can enjoy the filling! I mean, I had to take all the photos to brag about the perfect thinness of the outer dough shell. And pat on the back to them for perfecting the recipe to where it's not too thin to break easily but thin enough that the dish is not overwhelmed with bread. Very impressed.
Brisket + Cheddar - I have to say I was hesitant to order this one. Only because I'm not a big fan of BBQ. Before you gasp and ask if I'm a real Texan... I like BBQ but has to be when I crave it and in small portions and then I'm good for a looong while. So back to the filling..... This one was my favorite. The meat was juicy not too greasy. And top it off - mixed with may favorite food group - cheese!
Tres Leches Cinnamon Roll - a MUST get. It will speak for itself. Not too bready...just perfect!
Portion sizes (to me) are huge. Enough to get a few and share or get one and feel fully satisfied.
Going to have to say job well done on...
Read moreThe brisket + cheddar kolache is one of my favorite things I've eaten in Austin. Kerlaches, please stay open and make these fantastic kolaches forever.
I've also had the pulled pork and the breakfast sausage + egg + cheese and they've all been fantastic. The brisket + cheddar one is just even more steps beyond :') I'm not typically a huge brisket person but there is something about this that is so, so good. The delight hasn't diminished even though I've had a Kerlache every week for the last month. Perfectly flavorful and fluffy.
I think the price point is fair. It may seem hefty for a kolache, but these are STUFFED. I usually eat about 1 to 1.5 and that feels like a...
Read moreI ordered the brisket and cheddar kolache ($5.95) which comes with barbecue sauce. The dough is super soft, and it’s filled with a generous amount of delicious brisket. The barbecue sauce is a bit too vinegary for my taste but you don’t need the sauce to enjoy this kolache. Since they do sell out, I recommend calling before going to make sure they still have what you’re looking for. I loved that it’s part of a food truck park, so you can explore other food options as well. They have nice outdoor seating and we were able to find street parking...
