We were excited to finally eat here, we live 3 blocks away and put it away for date night and we finally found a spare night to get here. Unfortunately this was a 1 star before we even got to try the food. For the first time ever I had an experience where the front facing person was so rude that we were ready to walk away even after we (finally) placed our order. We get to the food truck and he is in deep convo with another couple of guys, some convo about the theory parents dying in front of their kids....ok whatever...but, we wait 10 minutes before they finish that and then he finally takes their orders....even after they could tell people were waiting behind them and they tried to order numerous times. So as the second people in line we waited 10 mins with more people behind us, because this dude was more concerned with making his point - which made the people he was talking to uncomfortable that they were holding up the line. I appreciate an alternative approach but this was strange. Then he gets to us and we are obviously ready with our order (and had been for 10 mins) and he calls us out for the lack of tip. I dont get it - is this place trying to be alternative/make money from being weird - or are they trying to give good series and make some tips? News flash fake hipster dude with terrible mustache, I tip after service and I tip well. Food was pretty decent but we'd already decided long before that we'd never go back and we'd be happy to tell everyone in East Austin about our...
Read moreThe beet fries are the stuff of legend. Seriously, I'm usually not the biggest fan of beets but these crispy little bites keep me coming back for more. Another favorite of mine is the Liberty Rice, a simple scoop of jasmine rice topped with ginger and herbs. I always get both of these when I visit this trailer, then select one of the other ten or so plates. Some of the most memorable would be the Curry Buns and Chicken Karage. People also rave about the brussel sprouts, but I'm yet to get a hold of them.
One thing that is a bummer about this trailer is its tendency to sell out of its most popular dishes. The only other complaint I would make would be that the food can sometimes be inconsistent. Some nights the beet fries will blow your mind. Other times they taste a little lackluster. I always cross my fingers before ordering in hopes that its a mind-blowing kind of night.
In addition to the Liberty location there are also East Side King Trailers in two other spots on East 6th., Shangrila, and The Grackle. Each has a slightly different menu, though certain...
Read moreWent to the high noon location last weekend and had a terrible experience. First…we stood there forever because homie wasnt even there. I thought maybe he was in the bathroom inside High Noon but he walked up from somewhere on the street. When I ordered the Thai Chicken Karaage i asked what “Karaage” means out of curiosity and he mocked me for asking. I also ordered the pork belly which he apparently forgot to make after 15 minutes when my boyfriend went to grab the food i guess he threw in some beet fries for free….also gross and SO salty. Coming from a girl who loves beets too (especially the pickled kind) then the kicker was….my pork buns were all bun and no pork!!!! It was literally just pieces of fat with a sliver of meat. I would have gone and said something if he hadn’t already been rude to me. Saving grace was the chicken….it was freaking GOOD!!! High Noon Also had a great Ambiance and live music so that was cool i love that bar. I don’t generally leave reviews but this was kinda unacceptable....
