We rolled in to La Volta on a whim, underdressed, but it was early. We sat down around 5pm. Atmosphere was great, this was our first time there and we were excited. We ordered a round of drinks as soon as we sat down and wanted to wait to order food because we weren't in a rush and wanted to enjoy the evening. Upon ordering the the 2nd round of drinks we ordered food. The pizza was pretty good, not exceptional, but we enjoyed the dinner. After we finished dinner, I ordered one more drink, a bourbon with a big rock. I was kindly informed that I could not be served because there was a wait, and we were told to leave. This is when things went sideways. Maybe I'm old school (48 years young), but I've never been in a restaurant that would not serve me because I was at a table too long. We were not camping, sipping water. We were drinking the whole time. I guess this is what it has come to in Austin. I also believe this is why you see so many restaurants come and go. The mentality of the service at SOME places makes it easy to see why they are not sustainable. If you want to be fast food, be fast food. Do not kick someone out that is trying to pay you money. It ruined our experience and we will not be back. If this place keeps this mentality they will not be here in a year. When the new wears off, and the potential regulars are no where to found, they'll be like all the others. The manager offered us a drink on the house to sit outside. Wow. The big man behind the bar, was incredibly nice. The vibe in the place was cool. But make me leave while I'm ordering drinks is a huge turn off. So if you go here, don't sit and enjoy a drink. You'll be pushed out. La Volta Fast Food Pizza,...
Read moreThe food is very good, but expensive! The pizza is about $30 / pie. The pizza was tasty but not necessarily better than Home Slice and/or Little Deli which both have a wider selection of pizza and cost less. The place is priced like upscale dinning, but the service was very casual. We ordered a meatball appetizer which was very tasty! We were given appetizer plates but no clean plates when the main entree came out. The server dropped off a large bottle of water snd implied we should refill our own waters. He dropped off the apetizers, and then did not check back in until we were almost done with our main entrees. He was not rude but also not attentive, I retreived clean plates from a neighboring table when the entree came out. The desert options were minimal and not made in house. The server implies at the end he thought he deserved 25% tip, despite only being seen 2 to 3 time during the whole meal. He wad not rude, but not outstanding and defininitely not worth 25%.
Bottom line food is very tasty but expensive for pizza and pasta. La Volta wants to seem upscale and is priced like it is upscale, but service and food selections are not there yet. If you want pizza go to Home Slice or Little Deli and get very good quality pizza for slightly less, if you want upscale spend a few Dollars more and go to Dean's Italian and Steakhouse downtown which has an amazing selection of food and drinks, excellent food, excellent service and an upscale fine dinning vibe...
Read moreThe food was good, and I was enjoying the pizza until the very end, when things took a weird turn. I noticed our server Carly boxed up the leftover pizza from the couple next to us, which was a nice touch. But when it came to mine, she just handed me a box and walked away. Actually she didn’t even hand it to me, she was going to place it by my purse on the booth. I was surprised, and I guess it showed on my face, because she looked back and said, “What? Do you need a bigger box?” With attitude. No, I needed the same courtesy you just gave the person sitting right next to me.
I caught myself cause the place was loud and I didn’t want the confrontation. The boy server/bartenders were nice. Our server Carly probably didn’t have the best day and it showed. I guess only with us cause she was super courteous to the guests to the right of us. That moment was awkward and unnecessary. It felt dismissive and a bit disrespectful, especially after such a good meal. I left with a bad impression, and honestly, it soured the whole experience. I left thinking to myself “did I do something to this girl?” Maybe cause we didn’t order alcoholic beverages? Or cause we took 10 min to order. Our check wasn’t that high? I’m not sure.
Great pizza, poor customer care when it mattered most and for that, we won’t be back and I...
