Black Girl Taco Chronicles sent Just A Girl From The 206 on a special assignment to Mi Madre's in Austin, Texas. We had #3 TACO (Ground beef, Mexican rice & cheese), #15 TACO (Pork carnitas, avocado & cilantro), #18 TACO (Barbacoa & pico de Gallo), #7 TACO (Carne guisada & cheese) and Mi Madres Migas(Corn tortilla chips scrambled with eggs and pico de Gallo, then topped with melted cheese aside from home fries and refried beans).
It was a beautiful day in Austin, Texas, when we decided to embark on a special assignment to Mi Madre's. As soon as we walked in, the smell of delicious Mexican cuisine filled the air, and we knew we were in for a treat.
We started off with a round of tacos, including the #3 taco with ground beef, Mexican rice, and cheese, the #15 taco with pork carnitas, avocado, and cilantro, the #18 taco with barbacoa and pico de gallo, and the #7 taco with carne guisada and cheese. All of the tacos were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection.
But the standout dish of the day was definitely the Mi Madres Migas - a plate of corn tortilla chips scrambled with eggs and pico de gallo, topped with melted cheese, and served alongside home fries and refried beans. It was a unique and flavorful dish we couldn't get enough of.
The service at Mi Madre's was top-notch. Our server was knowledgeable, and friendly, and went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. She even shared some tips on how to make the perfect carnitas with us. As it turns out, she used to own a very successful restaurant in Lockhart, Texas, so we were lucky to get some insider knowledge from a true pro.
Overall, we were highly impressed with Mi Madre's and would give it a 9 out of 10. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the conversation with our server was priceless. If you're ever in Austin, we highly recommend stopping by Mi Madre's for some great tacos and a truly memorable...
Read moreGreat place! Wanted to get a bite to eat with my significant and our pup so we wanted a dog friendly place. We missed breakfast so wanted to eat breakfast tacos and 4 pm. Unfortunately they stop serving breakfast at 3. Found the place through a review on Thrillist under a article called top 10 breakfast tacos by Austin musicians. Not a lot of ppl at that time on a Wednesday. Our waitress was very nice and even filled up a dog bowl of water just for Rose and immediately said she’s bringing 2 waters and chips and salsa. We hit at happy hour so the margaritas and beer are $5 if I’m not mistaken. We went ahead and chose the Saltillo dip which we absolutely loved. We ate it all and it was a good portion to be originally priced at $9. We ordered small bc of the dip ( got us pretty full fast) steak tacos were good and so was the carne guisada. Maybe a dollar or 2 more than a usual taco but hey it’s Austin. Lemonade was really great and the water was not funky tasting or looking. Forgot our waitresss name but short short hair but she provided great service. Overall great experience y’all deserve 5 stars which I really shouldn’t bc of pricing but I won’t knock y’all on that since I paid 6 dollars for one scoop of sherbet and a strawberry. Yes let that sink in... anyways parking is great on a Wednesday at 4pm. Idk about any other regular morning but seems like little spots I could be wrong bc I saw what I think was parking in the back. Location was so so but not enough to consider this a 4 star experience. Kind of in a neighborhood almost. Surrounded by a lot of super nice and some run down homes but it did feel authentic and they were playing Mexican music. Designated eat with your dog area that’s closed in and has fans. Plenty of bowls with water to pass around. Definitely dog friendly and will come again great experience...
Read moreThis place has been in business since the 90's and is an Austin Icon for sure. Small, very limited parking...and we seen that in previous reviews, so we plan in out and go after the Lunch rush...that always seams to work out. Everyone is very friendly...Warm chips and Salsa hit the table. I would definitely label this as "Creeper" salsa. The heat sneaks up on you and is extremely addictive. The Queso was good and the price is fair, as it is quit large. And as with most places, we seam to always add a couple scoops of Salsa, especially when its this good, to kick up the spice in the Queso. New place we always start with our basics...Chiladas...Wife with Ground Beef, Red Sauce...I with the Chicken, and Green Sauce. Now there was a small mix up with the wifes...They brought out Cheese, instead of Beef...With that came an apology and a new plate..Not a big deal, as they were fast to react. Both the Red and Green Sauce were unique on there own. Something totally different from what we have had in the past (100+ TexMex/Mex)...which is truly exciting. Her Read sauce was deep in smoky goodness, and as with the Salsa, had a bit of the creepy spice to it. Really Good!!...And the Green was just as good, with a Tart Tomatillo Flavor, and a lot thicker then most I have tried. The chicken inside was moist and tender. Rice was good...fresh and light...Charros were the bomb...I thicker style, almost BBQ style, with meat and a great Mexican flavor. I wish my plate would have been a bit warmer, but none the less it was a good visit. I would list this as a bit more $$$ then some places we have visited, but there bold flavor stand alone...
