TL:DR - Spicewood is the only location serving in person ramen. Ambience is cozy and low key. Food as tasted amazing, was fresh and staff was attentive to our needs. This dinner turned around my whole day and evening.
Dinner: Jungle with diced chicken. Meat Lovers with pork Belly x2. 12 gyoza and mochi.
I had a horrible day. You know the kind of day where work sucks and you bring it home with you (unintentionally)
My husband and I decided to go out instead of cooking and cleaning. Our original restaurant was slammed. Instead we decided to visit an old favorite Michi. We went to the north Lamar location without realizing they are not serving food in person there.
After some quick cursing and contemplation of fast food we decided to go to Spicewood Michi location because I was dressed nice and wanted something better then a hamburger.
After arriving the person at the front greeted us warmly and told us the procedure. Place an order with her in the front and take you number and grab a seat.
At first glance the seating area can seem a bit underwhelming. But as soon as we were seated the magic of the ramen market took over and felt very cozy and inviting. There are string lights that give the right vibe and it was very clean and neat.
After our food arrived we quickly started to eat and all the memories of all our other Michi dinners came back. We talked and reminisced about all the time we had gone out and enjoyed together. The food tasted even better then I remembered.
The diced chicken was tender and flavorful. The noddles had the perfect bite that made you just eat them faster then the soup. The broth was rich without being greasy. The gyoza was fantastic. Flavorful filling that had a crunchy bottom and steamed top.
Overall if you want a date night at a neat location where you can talk to the people who make you food and are down to earth this is the place to eat.
To anyone who loves the Lamar location and are apprehensive to going to there new one give it a shot! You will be so...
Read moreThe first time I ate here with my husband, we looked right at each other and agreed we will never stand in line for Tatsu-Ya again.
We have been loyal Michi customers for several months now and my affection grows with each bowl. They get our order wrong or have something missing almost every time we order (currently we are at 5 wrong out of our last 7 orders and I'm not exaggerating). I get it...honestly, there is so much happening in the world. I'm not even mad.
I know what you're thinking...why would I give a restaurant 5 stars when they routinely mess up my order? That's a valid question and I'll answer. It's because the ramen is Just. That. Good. Really. The staff is also super respectful and helpful which means we always have a pleasant experience.
I was hesitant to include their mistakes in this review because I didn't want to make them look bad...but I wanted to be honest and fair. Do you how much someone has to love a restaurant to keep giving them business when their order is only right on occasion? That alone should speak to the taste and quality of the food.
I had a dental surgery earlier this year and I was only able to take in liquids and purees for the first days after my operation. Pudding and apple sauce just didn't satisfy and I was starting to feel lethargic and weak after a day or so post-op. When I was feeling weak and my body needed to recover, a warm bowl of stout broth from Michi really hit the spot.
This little ramen shop has ruined me for all other ramen.
Also, my kids love it. My toddler shamelessly steals our noodles right from our bowls. Cheers to...
Read moreTook forever to come out. Usually I'm okay with waiting since if you wait there's a possibility the the ramen is great an worth the wait. I ordered the veggie with the promise that it's vegan. My wife got the meat lovers. The noodles where so undercooked it was a battle chewing them, ended up biting myself multiple times due to the rubber like consistently (noodles need to be cooked and prep the day before). The broth seemed to be from the bottom, it was so oily that it felt like I drank 90% of oil. I couldn't finish it and I usually fight through cause I hate food going to waste. However i felt it fighting my stomach. The only flavor that was present was from the corn and green onion. My wife luckily didn't get noodles in hers but was choking on the broth everytime she tried to drink it. We ended up leaving, the car ride back I was fighting the urge to puke. I ended up puking and found that the ramen noodles were still as solid as they came in dispite all the chewing prior. I ate at many ramen places, but you know it's bad when the cheap ramen back in the college years digested better and had more flavor. Not...
