If you’ve been following my Google Map reviews, you’ll know I have a knack for uncovering hidden gems—and Taqueria Mi Trailita is a perfect example. The name translates to “My little trailer taco stand,” a nod to its humble origins before becoming a brick-and-mortar spot. It’s tucked inside what looks like an abandoned strip mall parking lot, but don’t let that fool you—step inside, and it feels like coming home.
The restaurant is brightly lit, cozy, and immaculately clean. Walls are decorated with colorful Mexican folk art and flags, with neon beer signs adding a touch of dive-bar charm. There’s a cheerful mix of tables and chairs, Texas stars on the seatbacks, and TVs playing telenovelas or news to keep you company. A rainbow of hot sauces lines the counter under a handwritten menu, and the vibe is laid-back and genuinely local.
I ordered the large quesadilla, and not only was the water free (always appreciated), but they also brought out a complimentary basket of chips with a smoky red salsa. There were two taco sauces on the table: a green one that packed serious heat, and a milder red sauce with a rich, savory flavor. The quesadilla came loaded with meat and cheese, accompanied by crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, creamy avocado, and a dollop of sour cream—a hearty, satisfying meal.
According to locals, the migas and barbacoa breakfast tacos are fan favorites, and reviewers praise the handmade corn tortillas. The menu has expanded over time to include burritos, enchiladas, and chile rellenos, which justifies the “y más” (and more) in the name. Though a few mention the flour tortillas aren’t house-made, nearly everyone agrees this spot delivers excellent food at great value.
If you’re looking for an authentic, unfussy Mexican meal in East Austin, Mi Trailita is a must-visit. Just remember: don’t judge a taqueria by its...
Read moreI really really hate criticizing a small minority owned business, but this is the worst Google recommended letdown I've experienced to date. Granted, I grew up on the border where as a kid I had incredible Mexican food on the streets of Cd Juarez. My Mom kills at certain plates and my wife is from the Mexican west coast and she is the bomb at seafood and veggie concentrated dishes, so I know I'm not easy to please. I've been craving a good torta, but I decided to try several things with the good comments I read. The torta was meh. The quesobirria tacos were ok but the broth was watery. I ordered a migas plate but got a migas burrito, with the green sauce it was ok, without it my wife would have fixed better. The 5 tacos al pastor were ok. It's hard to mess up agua de horchata but here it was not good. The churros were a little hard. Our Venezuelan friend made us some last week and it was her first time, and hers were better. My Mom liked her red chilaquiles but she said she was really hungry. The green sauce was pretty good and I haven't tried the gordita yet. We took the food home and it was mostly men eating there, my only knock on the atmosphere is that the parking is full of pot holes. If you're from the Midwest or north you may like this food, it might be a step up from the bland food they serve on the west side, but I won't be returning. Sorry, I really...
Read moreI'm from south Texas (RGV) so take it from me when I tell you their street tacos are the real deal! Hand made corn tortillas and excellent ingredients make this place my go-to for the best tacos in town. My favorite, hands down, are the tripas. I know, I know, they're not for everyone. But if tripas are your thing, you must try theirs. Also, the bistek is a close second. Don't forget to ask for the green sauce. Also, order carefully as their tortillas are filled to the brim with meat! I can't vouch for any other items but if they are anything like their street tacos, you're in for a treat! Oh, I also recommend calling in your order as the crowds on the weekends are crazy - there is barely a space to park to get your fix. I almost feel bad for the "other place" across the street that...
