My smokin' hot lunch date was Patrick, a smart, fun, and funny local realtor who graciously opened the car door for me as we made our way to lunch at the Tailor Shop. However, things took an unexpected turn when I decided to yank a 2-inch or so piece of thread hanging from the right back pocket of his jeans. It was an attempt to be helpful (given my 25+ years' experience as a pro declutterer and organizer, and my penchant for attention to detail), but it turned into a big mistake. He was not pleased about it at all-- I apologized and offered how I can make this right, and suggested my seamstress. But to be fair about his mood, he had just received the news that his old neighbors were moving back, and I guess he's not too fond of them.
After Patrick gave me four lunch options, I quickly settled on the Tailor Shop as soon as he mentioned Philly Cheesesteak. He'd been here before and highly recommended it. When it came time to order, our fabulous server recommended hot peppers for my Original Cheesesteak – I couldn't decide between hot and sweet. Patrick, if I recall correctly, opted for the Philly Chicken Original.
I shared the thread-tugging mishap with our waitress, Christina, who happens to be a seamstress preparing for her wedding. She kindly offered to mend Patrick's jeans but was swamped with wedding preparations. Instead, she provided us with valuable tips on finding budget-friendly clothes and promised to connect us with a friend who could tackle the jeans.
As for those Polo Jeans, Patrick snagged them on eBay for a steal and planned to visit a "meh-tailor" next Tuesday to have the extra thread embroidered.
So, the moral of the story: Head to the Tailor Shop for the BEST Philly Cheesesteaks in town and top-notch service. And don't forget to ask Christina for "tailored recommendations" –...
Read moreFirst time to try the Tailor Shop and it was a Thursday night. Plenty of parking in their lot and on the side street. Weeds sprouting in cracks and parts of the wood fencing could use some love. Made us pause for a second and wonder if they are still open. Interior of the restaurant was spacious, comfortable, a beautiful bar, nice tv's for watching sports, music system level was just right. Service and hospitality were stellar. Sat at the bar and Christine welcomed us then perfectly described menu items and featured beers on tap from Zilker Brewing. We loved the Oktoberfest one so much we ordered a pitcher. Delicious! And the rep for Zilker Brewing was there to chat a bit with us. We had the sweet spicy pizza and homemade meatballs, came out of the kitchen in perfect amount of time, and both items were Perfection. Will order those again and again. Noticed they were doing a nice amount of takeout business too, so we will definitely be calling in the future. They also feature live music there sometimes. Christine let us sample Zephyr Gin and it was delicious. She really knows her stuff so we can't wait to go back to try some cocktails before we hit a concert right across the street at 04 Center. The Tailor Shop is a fantastic addition to South Lamar's bustling restaurant district! Be sure to go...
Read moreThe workers are nice and helpful. But if I’m going out to eat I don’t want it to be a study course or another chore. I’m going to eat to avoid that. So the whole jumping through hoops on my phone to order is not my idea of enjoying dinner out. It’s way way over priced and the food is not good. Very little taste to any of it. They have have alcohol and the stuff to make good drinks but the drinks are terrible. 15 dollar cocktail I could not drink. And some way overpriced box Chardonnay. It’s a hipster joint with horrible execution with very sweet staff. Two pizzas two tacos two alcoholic drinks and a coke. 100 dollars I’ll always want back. Not fun not pleasant....
