Hadn't been here in a while and wanted to check out out again. Two ingredient (plus egg included) breakfast tacos here at Papalote Taco House for about $3 per. Good size. Good price. I did chorizo and pablano plus egg and sausage and potato plus egg on flour. Flour tortillas are OK. They need to be crisped up a bit more before serving. Good flavor. A bit thick. I love pablano, but I can't advise eating here. It isn't cooked enough and the waxy skin still it on. They need to char them, remove the skins, then put longer (softer) strips inside. Chorizo was fine, but the bad pablano semi ruined that one for me. The sausage and potato was a surprise winner. Nice chunks of sausage. Eggs are well cooked. Winner. Salsa Roja has a nice kick. Salsa Verde is mild, but fine. Pretty good spot. Will try again. EDIT. knocking it down a star. The flour tortillas were just not acceptable. Sloggy, lack of flavor, really need to be crisped up a bit before serving.

Bigger isn't always better. I loved this place and have been eating here occasionally for years, but this is the first time I been in since they expanded. Not the same, and I cannot bring myself to give it even 3 stars. The food was ok, but not great. The feel is sterile instead of that hole-in-the-wall greatness it used to possess. And, they got my order wrong. Flour tortillas are not my jam, and that's what I got on one of my 2 tacos although I asked for corn. The tinga de res was my favorite taco on the menu here, but today it tastes like dirty dish water...what happened?! I couldn't take more than 2 bites and forced down the second. Not at all worth $4.20 per taco. The refried black beans were bland. Meh. It'll be a while before coming back to this location, if at all. Perhaps we need to try the one on Congress if it's still there. Was there a change in ownership? Ugh.

Papalote is a great little place for interior style Mexican food with a variety of street style tacos. The dining area was recently remodeled and expanded, with a fresh clean design and more tables. I had the Alambres grilled steak tacos on this visit, which were very tasty. They have a green and red sauce both good, however I preferred the green sauce. After three of the small street style tacos the lingering flavors left me wanting more, but there was no room left in the stomach! Two tacos will most likely be plenty to satiate your hunger. I should also mention they have decent breakfast tacos. I recommend giving this place a shot next time you are in the South Lamar area - a great quick stop for that late weekend brunch too.

True Mexico Mexican Tacos - Not TexMex ! I really love this place BECAUSE FLAVORS !!!! Everything I’ve ever tried here was delicious and there’s an incredible variety on the menu, though being a Taco House it is basically just Tacos; though you can get a Sope if you like that thick masa goodness. Their SALSA IS INCREDIBLE. If you’re getting a standard potato egg bacon and cheese breakfast taco the taste is pretty standardized regardless of who makes it - that’s why for breakfast tacos IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SALSA !!!! They always have both a Green and Red and sometimes they have a Ranchero too. One problem I’ve alway had here is that when getting the order to go I can not, no matter what, get enough salsa from the staff. They are super stingy with the to-go salsa. I’ll ask for more, they give me one or two more, so I ask for a whole lot more and they still only give me one or two more - this has been really frustrating since I’m here for the salsa. I recently found out you can buy an 8oz togo container of salsa and while I’m forgetting the price it was completely reasonable.

Now for why there’s 4 out of 5 stars with such a glowing review: there’s a bad stink that comes from their bathroom. No, not like that. I think it’s a plumbing problem because it’s been there consistently for years. It typically doesn’t stay in the bathroom, and after overwhelms the entire inside of the restaurant. Thankfully there are tables and chairs outside. I sure hope the owner addresses the stank so I can give...

DISRESPECTFUL!They just lost a frequent customer. I work nearby and go in person often, they never mess up then. I ordered on my off day over the phone instead 1 time and they added cheese to all my breakfast tacos when I didnt ask for it. This 2nd time over the phone it was the manager working up front who is always there. So I was excited it was her thinking my order would be good. I still paid CLOSE ATTENTION to make sure when she was repeating my order that she did not say the words "cheese or queso" and she did not. When I went to pick up on the screen it said "cheese" when I told her I did not ask for cheese she got very upset with me and said "I've been working here for 11yrs and I always repeat the order YOU MUST NOT HAVE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO ME AND SAID, YES YES YES AND DIDNT LISTEN TO ME."etc. (Continues scolding me) I let her know I paid close attention and never asked for cheese and I've been going there frequently about 4yrs now and my order is ALWAYS THE SAME THING!!!!! ALWAYS! EVEN AT LUNCH I ORDER THE BREAKFAST TACOS! She was so disrespectful causing a scene arguing with me that a group of workers at a nearby table were just staring at me. Not going back. Extremely horrible and unacceptable customer service. Doesn't matter if she's been there 11yrs,they need someone with better customer service skills and who...

Good food, not great. After looking at the menu I was super excited and thought this might be my new spot, but now I don't know if I'll return. Called the spot a few times, eventually they answered but put me on hold so long I ended up at the store and just walked in. I tried their "agus fracas," and it was ok, but a bit too sour and odd tasting. After ordering I wasn't gonna genba receipt, then a cook from the kitchen came out and started yelling a ticket number, we awkwardly approached her and tried to ask if it was out order, but she couldn't speak English, but handed us the bag either way. Upon coming home we tried the tacos, the chicken was way overcooked and rubbery and I couldn't taste much from the tacos except their hotsauce which was good. That's not to say I covered it in hotsauce, but that the taco itself was a bit bland. I really would have like different textures and tastes but everything kinda seemed like it was slow cooked into 1 flavor or texture. So 2 stars on customer service, 3...
