I ordered three subs at this Thunderclouds and immediately noticed attitude from the young lady who helped me. When I walked in, no one was at the front counter, she eventually came out from the back and asked what I wanted very dryly. She was making all three sandwiches at once and asked about everything I wanted on the sandwiches but didn’t ask if I wanted avocado, which I didn't want on one, by the time I realized I needed it removed due to allergies, she’d already spread it on the bread. When I asked if she could fix it, she gave a short sigh and rolled her eyes, threw half the sandwich in the trash, and got a new roll, clearly very agitated.
Even after I tipped her to compensate for the wasted bread, which I didn't have to do, she just spun the screen around and walked away, but I yelled out "thank you, have a good day," because I'm petty like that especially when it comes to my customer service. Meanwhile, another customer with kids arrived and was greeted warmly by a different employee, which made her attitude toward me stand out even more.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had this kind of experience at this location, last time a male employee had a similar attitude. Read moreIt is hard to not like Thundercloud Subs. Everything they make is great. It is full of old Austin chill and every location is unique.
This location is typically manned by two guys. I think there are three employees, but I always see the same two guys. They both are awesome and attentive. The food is always in great shape and the bread is always fresh.
It is common knowledge in Austin, but in case you are not from here... If you want a good sandwich from a place that represents the attitude and feeling that made Austin so cool. If you want to smell and experience what it must have been like when they filmed Slacker here. Step into the portal that is Thundercloud Subs.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a terrible chain deli sandwich with soul killing blandness, go to Subway. It's...

To top it all off, they were out of 10 inch white bread, but rather than telling me that they can't make me a 10-inch (like most other quick stop restaurants I've been to), Thomas took initiative, cut the ends off two 6-inch loaves to make them fit together, and made me the sandwich on that.
Also, very friendly! 10/10,...
