Wally: "You won't know him, but he's mustard."
This is a mustard joint. They won't disgustify your burger with ketchup or mayonnaise but rather delishify it with mustard. These days you never know what they're gonna do to a burger. Heck, Hopdod got me puttin' a dadgum fried egg on my burger like a gosh darn hipster—but I sure weren't complainin', thems good. Anyway, Wally does a classic fast food burger like Waterburger used to do before they went the way of the world and turned pure rubbish. Then again, I ain't ate fast food in a good long while. And perhaps that's why I woke up the next morning come to find out Wally some dadgum agitator got my innards in a twist. My dear companion had much the same ooky experience. Hard to tell if it was really Wally's fault or just the fact that we've developed some kind of intolerance to the fast food, but I can say that in the act of eating Wally up I was perfectly satisfied, and that satisfaction certainly extends to the fries as well. These days you can't expect much from a fry—you often find flaccid fries that make you gag and grease up your fings all nasty-like. Now, we only ever went this once to Wally, but he done right by us in terms of fries: crispy and delicious, golden brown, texture like sun. Take with mustard. Billy Bob turned me on to them french fried taters & mustard, you know, and I been doin' it ever since. You'll do the same if you know what's good food for you. My dear companion and I also got us some shakes from Wally: one classic chocolate, one chunky pineapple, both delish.
If you're in the market for fast food, don't waste your money or your tummy on Big Burger (i.e. McDees, J in the B, Waterburger)—give Wally a go....

Read moreWally's Burger Express is housed in an old DQ building. There is nothing wrong with that; the nostalgia will hit immediately. I was hoping to find a great new burger spot, and, unfortunately, this was not it. A quick look at the website made me fearful, and I was not wrong. They LOOKED abysmal in the photos, and they tasted worse. Ketchup couldn't even save them. I ate two and was done. My daughter was disappointed as well and didn't finish her portion either. Thankfully, the burger was better. It's not on par with some of the greats here in Austin, but it was head and shoulders better than the fries. I got a double bacon cheeseburger all the way. They make it like it should be made, with mustard. They were happy to accommodate substitutions for my daughter's burger. The meat was flavorful and juicy. My toppings were generous (save the bacon) and fresh. The bacon was hyped on the website as a "don't miss", it was missable; one very anemic slice of flavorless bacon was not worth the upcharge. Speaking of charges, 2 double cheeseburgers and 2 small fries were 33.00. Had they been great, I'd happily pay for good food. For comparison 3 double cheeseburgers and 2 large sides at Dan's is 38.00. I'd pay more for Dan's every day of the week. The employees were the star of this experience. Super friendly and nice. I was greeted when I came in. The cashier had a smile on his face. I was thanked with a smile when I got my order. Would Wally's work in a pinch?? Sure. I wouldn't order fries again. Would I seek Wally's...
