Buccaneer Ice Cream & Candies — Restaurant in Avalon

The buccaneer is the movie theater of ice cream parlors. By this I mean that a movie theater will often charge something like $5 for a soda, and attempt to make the customer feel better about that by making it a ridiculously massive soda. In reality it doesn't cost the theater much more to give you a massive soda than a normal soda (the cost of soda is miniscule), but it makes the customer feel better about how expensive it is. The buccaneer is pricey, but they give you a lot of ice cream (enough to shock just about everyone I see come in). So a good tip might be to order a size down from what you're used to. A junior is equivalent to a normal small, a small is equivalent to a normal medium - large depending on how big the scoops are, and a large is too big for your average person. That being said, the ice cream is pretty good, and they have a very robust flavor selection. They also have live entertainment a few nights a week primarily for kids. All in all it's probably one of the best choices for ice cream in Avalon/stone harbor if you don't want to wait out the long line at Springer's. My family has been here countless times and really enjoy the ice cream. Unfortunately, the staff time and time again has been completely inept. We think it’s wonderful that they employ local young people, but they are unorganized, slow, and get orders wrong. Worse of all, I had a friend visiting who is allergic to nuts and dairy. He asked if they had a nut and dairy free option, to which the the server said they did. After paying and waiting, my friend got his ice cream, and but for the scooper saying “dairy free almond” he almost ate a something that would have required an immediate visit to the hospital. What I love about this place is how accommodating they are about toppings! If you want extra toppings, they can do that. If you want the entire dish do be buried in a mountain of toppings, they'll do that! Just picture a small Mount Everest of gummy worms. The ice cream is delicious, the fudge is delicious, the setup is efficient, they have all sorts of various ice cream products! Milkshakes, malts, you name it! They have great entertainment for the kids three times a week, and once again, SUPER accommodating with toppings.
