BROS — Restaurant in Avon

Another Excellent visit to Bro's this year during the annual fishing tournament. We had a day to ourselves before the tournament and ran around Avon and Buxton getting our fishing licenses and passes to get the trucks on the beach. Once we got all the work out of the way we started talking about lunch and everyone looked at me. "Where do we go Joe". Guess what, I know just the place.

I had the pleasure of bringing everyone into Bro's for a burger. We arrived on the end of lunch and immediately found ourselves at the counter ordering our lunches. Once completed I filled my iced tea at the counter and we sat and shot the breeze for about 10-15 minutes while waiting for the food to arrive.

This year all of our meals came out on dark wood cutting boards, a nice switch up from the old food baskets used in the past. The presentation was awesome as was the test. Between the four of us we had 3 burgers at the table and a cheesesteak. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service and atmosphere were great. I'm looking forward to coming back next year, or sooner if I find myself in Avon before then.

When I arrived in Avon for our annual fishing tourney it was about 5pm and I hadn't had a chance to get lunch during the drive. Since I had some time to kill before the others arrived I pulled into the shopping center and decided to give Bro's Sandwich Shack a try.

Bro's BTW is located in the front corner unit of the Food Lion shopping center in Avon. Previously this space was the home of Cafe 12, then it was an Asian restaurant for a season and now it's Bro's.

After walking in you get in line at the counter and order your meal, there's a decent selection of sandwiches and burgers available. I had a tough time deciding on whether to get a Cheesesteak or a Burger and finally decided on a 'build your own' burger (Bacon Cheeseburger with Cheddar Cheese) with a side of curly fries.

After a short wait the young lady that took my order at the counter brought my lunch out. The burger was delicious, as were the fries. My only complaint was that I thought the meal was a little on the pricy side. Burger, fries and drink came out to about $17 after the tip. But what the heck, I was on vacation right. Went to Bros Sandwich Shack in Avon, NC. Our first time ever to visit their establishment—and it will be our last time too. The food was OKAY, but the service leaves much to be desired.

First of all, we were a party of four. We spent $61.13 including a 20 percent tip on food and beverages for lunch.

When we placed our order, Chelsea A. informed my wife that they had a rule of no beverages are allowed to be brought into the restaurant. (She brought her own water to drink as she had kidney surgery last year and doesn’t drink tap water or any carbonated commercial drinks.) When she informed Chelsea of this, the server simply repeated “it’s the rule.”

My wife asked if their water was filtered. The server informed us it was. When we paid and sat down—my wife discovered the water WAS NOT FILTERED—and she was unable to drink it. She still had her personal water bottle with her—and sat it in the table. She decided simply to eat and drink nothing.

HALF WAY THROUGH OUR FOOD, Chelsea decided to come to our table and inform us we were breaking the rule of no personal beverages allowed in the restaurant. She informed us she could take my wife’s container up to the register until we finished our meal.

Seriously? During a pandemic? Touching my wife’s personal water bottle? Taking it from her person? When it was simply sitting on the table? Up to the register to enforce a rule? Fearing that she might steal a beverage from there fountain? The restaurant was virtually dead. Few customers were there. We were enjoying time together and RULES were chosen to be enforced over customer RELATIONSHIP. Our first time will be our last. The burger was average but service was TOTALLY TASTELESS! What an awesome place to eat, I took my mother to grab some lunch this week and being a local I can say I've ate anywhere and everywhere on the island but I must say that BROS has the best Sandwiches and the waffle fries are some of the best I've ate anywhere.. they have Chick-fil-A beat hands down with there waffle fries.. the steak Philly with the smoky Gouda cheese was different than most places that all use the same provolone cheese on there Philly's, this made it a standout immediately, the sandwich I had was the French dip and I had the onion jam on the side,served with a side of Au'ju..it was delicious.. the shaved steak was melt in your mouth and I only had leftovers because I wanted some to snack on at home later, but it took all my willpower to not eat every bite immediately. The price for 2 of us dining in ordering 2 sandwiches, each with a side of waffle fries and each of us getting a serve yourself fountain drink coming close to $40 ..it was worth every penny.. a delicious treat for sure. The counter-service was professional and friendly, the young lady Maddie working inside such a great asset to BROS with her sweet customer service and open smile to all.. everything is fresh, and the owners "brothers" obviously take pride in serving the best food to all.. I'd highly recommend this restaurant for your next stop or you can dine in "in the laid-back rustic styled dining room.. can't wait to return again soon.. keep up the great service and to all...
