If there were any competition at all on Hatteras Island, including a Taco Bell, this place would be out of business.
Like one reviewer noted, food seems to be microwaved, then put on a very hot plate to mask that it was microwaved. But if you are going to microwave the food, at least don’t microwave the lettuce and tomato on top the enchiladas and tamales. Gross.
Like another reviewer pointed out, the chips and salsa are the best thing on the menu.
Still sometimes you gotta have Mexican. I went here about three times during low season. Not many people and service was indifferent.
First time I went during high season, I really noticed the contempt the owners have for their customers. It took a good ten minutes for the host to even acknowledge the people waiting. They have a rude sign up demanding you wait to be seated and another one telling you not to hold the door open!
Tip to owner: If you want customers to wait to be seated even if only a quarter of the restaurant is full, then at least have the host waiting by the door. The host, my guess the owner’s son, clearly relished making everybody wait while he ignored them. Then by that time, he had no clue who had arrived first and began seating those who arrived last. Again, no competition, and it shows! I...
Read moreWhile i can say the food was good I would rather spend my money and time on vacation at a restaurant that offers a better guest experience and has trained their staff on customer service. The hostess was rude from the moment we walked in. We had no problem waiting 30 min to be seated but when we were given 2 separate tables for a party of seven we asked to be moved. There were several larger tables available so it seemed like an easy request. The manager /owner refused our request and went so far as to be very rude to us as he passed by our tables (the 2 seperate ones) when we tried again to explain why we preferred to be seated together. After waiting 15 min to place a drink order and being ignored by the owner, our waiter tried his best offer us a nice experience. However when the owner of the restaurant continued to walk by and glare at us it became very uncomfortable. I'm not sure how this place stays in business with their lack of appreciation or respect for their paying customers. I recommend that you take your hunger and your...
Read moreI had lunch in here recently and have to say for Mexican in the Outer Banks, they need some help. They were about half full and we were seated immediately, however after that it was at least 20 minutes before the only waiter on the floor came and gave us some chips and took our drink order.
We then waited another 10 minutes or so before he came back and took our lunch order. I went with a combo that had an enchilada, two beef tacos, and chile con queso.
Once the order went in the food came out pretty quickly. I dived into my taco's and they tasted funny. In fact, they tasted like fish... I'm not sure what caused this, a spoon moved into the wrong pot would be my best guess. but it threw the taste off significantly. I didn't finish them.
The rest of my meal was meh... I will say the other two items did taste normal, but it was just mundane. No pizazz at all. We wrapped things up and left shortly after that.
Next visit to Avon I'll be...
