Duck Donuts — Restaurant in Avon

We stopped in here one morning in early May. This Duck Donuts is conveniently located in the same strip mall as Food Lion, other shops and eateries.

I had eaten breakfast already, so I was just looking for a hot coffee to go for our drive down to Hatteras. My husband wanted to get a donut.

My husband ended up ordering a donut breakfast sandwich, the kind you would typically get on an English Muffin or bagel. It was pretty cool, he could choose from a wide assortment of donuts, but he opted for a plain one. It's really awesome that the donuts are made to order, way better than the stale ones Dunkin' often has.

There were only 2 other parties in here ordering, it was a bit slow getting his food. I can't imagine coming in here at the peak time in the summer, but maybe they have more staff at that time.

In addition to food, they also sell some neat merchandise. Plenty of t-shirts, mugs and hats for sale.

There is SOME seating inside, but not a whole lot. This is a good breakfast alternative to a sit down restaurant, but if you are in a huge rush, it might be better to pick some up at the nearby...

We were greeted by a friendly employee. My wife ordered the Bacon, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich, and felt that the yellow cake donut was far too sweet. Unfortunately the savory fillings did not counteract the sweetness of the donut. My son enjoyed the Oreo Cake Donuts, but felt that there was a bit too much powdered sugar, and made it a messy experience. The Pins Colada donut was delicious because the tart lemon icing with the shredded coconut made it taste like something tropical. My second donut was Bacon In The Sun. The maple coating and the smoky and crispy bacon were the best of all combinations, and I enjoyed each and every bite. Luckily the toppings I had were savory enough to counteract the sweetness of the yellow cake donut. We were not fans of the warm donuts because it made the eating...

Very good, very tasty donuts!! We ordered online and it was seamless. When we got to the store it was a little clunky as it was busy and no one was monitoring the pick up orders. No knocks, just had a little difficulty flagging somebody down so we could get our hot coffee and food. Only gripe was the breakfast sandwich though very tasty it didn't appear to be dressed with the extra cheese, egg, and bacon I had specifically ordered. No real problem as it only added about 3 dollars to a relatively inexpensive breakfast. Overall the donuts and breakfast sandwich were tasty and the black coffee was very well balanced and hot.
