Last time I was here 2 years ago, it was a super clean welcoming shop, they also had great espresso served by professionals who were all knowledgeable and able to answer coffee related questions and loved and encouraged talking coffee with customers. I would watch other customers drinks come out with cool designs like flowers, swans, or even designs that no other shop in the state was doing at the time. They took that extra care about the quality and presentation. Came in again about 2 weeks ago when visiting the area, the place was dirty with crumbs all over the ground and a bit of a sour milk odor. I figured it was a busy day and proceeded to order, I would ask about what types of coffees they had on and didn’t have the slightest clue about what they were serving outside of light, medium, or dark roast. I waited an about 5 mins for my shot, and noticed that they did away with the designs and all the mugs had blobs of foam on top like you’d see at Starbucks. Then I get my drink and it was the worst espresso I’ve ever had (it was bitter and harsh like you’d get if you order a shot at Starbucks) and seems like the new staff doesn’t have the slightest clue about what’s going on or what they are doing. It seems like they hired a bunch a teenagers who don’t care like you’d find at McDonald’s. Sad because this was my favorite shop in ct, but next time I’ll find another REAL 3rd wave shop in the area, because clearly this shop has lost it’s touch and it doesn’t feel like it’s even the same amazing shop I visited 2 years ago that I had a such a positive...
Read moreOrdered a turkey wrap along with a couple of drinks and a dessert to go. Drinks and dessert came out as expected. Wrap was nowhere to be seen after 20 min. Saw multiple people who ordered after me get sandwiches from the kitchen. Went up to the counter and asked for status. Cashier went in the back to check and came and said they were boxing it up. 5 more minutes, no wrap. I went up and asked another person for the sandwich. She went in the back and a loud discussion in a foreign language that sounded angry could be heard as she went to the back. She came back to brusquely tell me “you have to wait longer.” I said that it had been over 20 minutes. At that point I had run out of time and was concerned about the commotion and what might come of my wrap so I asked for a refund. After a minute, someone else came out and asked me “how much was your order for?” As if I remember the exact amount of the charge from 25 minutes prior. I approximated and after a few minutes of scrolling through all the orders after mine, he found my order and then said ok. I asked so do you my card or did you process it? He said, “your should be all set” and offered no receipt. I get that kitchen and service mistakes happen. What I can’t accept is how not one person apologized for the apparent error in the process or the inconvenience. A place that cares about service would take care of their customers. my family had been in that location each day for the last two days. We’ll think twice about visiting and spending our...
Read moreSo I typically love love love Dom's coffee and I'm hesitant to write this review, but I had a not so pleasant experience the most recent time I went. I ordered my coffee like normal, and once the person at the cash register relayed my order to one of the baristas making my drink, the person making my drink made fun of my order. I ordered a decaf iced mocha latte with almond milk. It wasn't a crazy order. But when he heard the order he repeated it back to the register in a shocked and annoyed tone, then said "what's even the point of that" and laughed (at least I'm pretty sure he said that). It was literally right in front of me and I felt embarrassed and put on the spot for just trying to order coffee. As a barista, I found this is to be very unnecessary and insulting. I've never once judged someone for their drink choices, especially right in front of the customer, in such an intimate space like Dom's coffee. I also know that iced drinks are favored with baristas because they are quicker/easier to make, and it wasn't busy so I don't know why my order would've been an issue. I hope this employee in the future is a little bit more mindful of their surroundings...
