Takeout review:
I read that this is not your normal Chinese takeout spot so I had to check it out. They serve authentic Chinese Szechuan cuisine and has locations in West Hartford and Fairfield. I ordered the hot appetizer, Chengdu Dumplings which are steamed pork dumplings with their special garlic sauce; this was sweet, spicy, and in hot chili oil. The flavors were delicious and I should've ordered two of these to make an entree. For my entree, I had the crispy chicken in spicy garlic sauce. Since this was a takeout order, they had the sauce in a separate container so the chicken won't be soggy. Before pouring the sauce over your chicken, make sure to shake it first. The sauce was okay and not that spicy. I probably wouldn't order this again.
The next time, I want to try our the Dan Dan noodles, Seven Flavors Wonton, Spicy Cumin Beef, Chong Qing chicken, and many more. The prices were definitely higher than other Chinese spots. Overall, a good Szechuan spot for your non typical...
Read moreSome acquaintances recommended SHU in West Hartford for really good authentic Chinese food. When I looked them up, I was surprised to see that they have recently opened up an express location in Avon that carries just the most popular options. This saves me a lot of time in traffic as I don’t have to go over the mountain to get authentic Chinese food.
There are a lot of things on their menu that I still have to try, but so far I highly recommend their Kung Pao Chicken, Fish Filet in Hot and Spicy Bowl, and their dumplings and wontons. Their lunch specials are also really good, I like the fish filet in sauce and the Kung Pao Chicken specials so far.
The twice cooked chicken was not bad, but they have better stuff on their menu in my opinion. Also be warned that the Chong Qing chicken is loaded with hot chili peppers.
Definitely give them a try, today will be my 5th day in a row...
Read moreSome reviewers shared their experience of raw dumplings, may be the managers saw this and told their cooks to NEVER do this again, at all cost...Because the beef dumplings I got were very very overcooked, more charred black than anything else. The menu specifies which items are spicy, so I went with the Mongolian Beef as it was not stated spicy, this was wrong. Excluding the unknowing & unwanted spice, it was extremely bland, and the only thing it's served with is onion, literally one entire onion cut up for your pleasure to eat with the few pieces of beef you get. The sauce was more of an oil than sauce, just greasy and bland. May be other items are better, but there are better & cheaper Chinese restaurants in the area that I'll gladly take...
