This was The first time eating at Papi’s Taco Joint- my husband and I are from the southwest where you can find 23 miles of the best Mexican food (no cap) we hope to get a really delicious experience. The establishment is very nice – well lit, and a very nice musical ambience that’s not too overwhelming The first person we encountered was KELSEY Kelsey was quite lovely as soon as she asked us how we were doing, and if we would like to sit at the bar or in the dining room, she proceeded to ask if we had any food allergies to applied. Yes, there is a fish allergy and she said , “not to worry we’ll take care of you, as we don’t have a whole lot of fish”. Admittedly, I said, offhandedly that a fish allergy is not too be taken lightly and wanted to make sure that was communicated – Kelsey handled my offhanded critique with aplomb (Five stars well done). Kelsey and her coworker Jas/Jazz ( I didn’t get the spelling of her name before I leftApologies. ) seated us in the dining room. The dining area is spacious and well-lit, and is good for both intimate and larger, social gatherings. We were presented with a delicious basket of homemade chips and casa salsa~ VERY FLAVORFUL!
The next person we came to contact with was Ty Another lovely person we had a pleasure of interacting with. Tai answered all her questions got our drink. Orders asked, after how I liked my margarita ( blended with a salt and sugar rim.) Spot on also, just a heads up, they have cook products as opposed to Pepsi products. They have a really nifty ordering system. It’s basically done on these Terway tickets or you basically choose your adventure. It’s very exciting. ( see attached photos.)
The food was brought out within 10 minutes of us ordering, and we were hungry. The refried beans and charro beans were Delicioso! The Spanish rice just had enough of a bite to remind us of the rice back home in Arizona. The Carnitas tacos were very delicious on soft corn tortillas, And although the Carne Asada was not as flavorful as it might have been that was easily rectified by a quick dash of some of their delicious green salsa and a little bit of juice from the Charro style beans.
Finally, as we were getting ready to leave another lovely person by the name of PEZ( like the dispenser we were informed) Asked us after how we enjoyed everything to which we replied we did and coming from Arizona. We had high hopes and we’re very very pleased and that the staff that we had interacted with was wonderful was pleased to hear that and invited us to come back as soon as possible. I’m here to say Papi’s SoHa Union will definitely be a spot in the future!! P.S. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained and the wall art made us chuckle( pictures of novela-esque covers of books and magazines my grandmother had laying...
Read moreIt is refreshing to have a restaurant like this in our neck of the woods. I did order to-go on my food. However it was still phenomenal. I ordered the Birria Tots, Honey Old Bay Wings Fried Hard, and The Crab Dip. They absolutely nailed the wings. fair amount of meat for not being breaded and great flavor overall. The Crab Dip was hearty with chunks of crab and it tasted like they probably use their cream of crab soup as the base for the dip then bulk it up. Which to me, speaks highly of both the dip and the soup. It also doesn't leave too much room for filler. Nice and tender hunks of crab meat. Plus not just doused in Old Bay and cheese like most crab dips. The dip-ables they sent with the dip were good as well. Crisp celery and carrot sticks, braided pretzels, and the bread were all good pairings. Maybe toast the bread a little more for a crostini. The Birria Tots sauces were delicious with smattering of the plate we received just tots piled high with that Birria which had a good chew if you got a scoop of everything. The only issue I had with the tots was that some of the little hunks of the Birria meat were a little dry. But if you've worked in a kitchen you know why that can happen. You guys are killing it there and I hope you all become a mainstay here. Since it was my first time there it definitely felt like a chill spot from the color scheme, to the outdoor seating and, overall vibe. It feels kind of like it should belong in Hampden. I'll definitely be back. Much love, Stay...
Read moreI tried several times with Papi's Soha. Papi's is a great franchise, but this location fails. 1st visit the tacos are not good, they are consumable. But I figured they just opened it will get better. 2nd time out was happy hour and wings. Wings were overcooked a couple with holes in the flesh. Guac is okay. 3rd time was a crime. My family and I walked here on a Monday for a stroll and dinner. Three hairs were found. Two in one dish, one in the other. I called the manager, informed her I was not paying for any of the food. The youngest had ate their very small, not appetizing to anyone else, tacos. I paid for our wings, we ate them, they seemed fresh. I also paid for our beverages in consideration of the waitress and tipped. I tipped although the waitress brought the wrong order several times. They tried to bill me for drinks ordered, but not served. I don't know if it was incompetence or audacity. A more accountable and hospitable manager would have comped everything. And yes this is going...
