The staff who waited on me was really polite and helpful with questions. The music in the cafe was interesting without being intrusive, and I even found a few new favorites. There was only one other party when I went in so the quiet was appreciated. The only reason I give the food a 4 not a 5 was because I really think they have the potential to be mind-blowing if they tune in their flavors a little bit. The carrot chickpea dip starts showing flavor only after you eat a lot of it. That makes it perfect for snacking without getting bored of the taste but I feel like its not the best dish as an appetizer. Just a tiny bit of maybe pink salt or more of a deep carrot flavor or a little more spice can make this seriously amazing. The house tortilla chips are seriously awesome - crispy and when you chew into it somehow soft and doesn't hurt your mouth with sharp corners. The same with the crostinis - nice thin slices to bite into and not pieces of baked cardboard. Great job there! And OMG, the mushroom Wellington is the first time I have tried the dish and it has set my standards high. It's all that I would expect from the dish - buttery and flaky pastry that cuts right through, a grounded mushroom filling between two more solid mushroom steaks that gives it good texture and hold the piece together, the salad greens that balances the deep meaty mushroom with it's freshness and the balsamic sauce that is sweet and cuts through the mushroom's flavor. I am normally very wary of dishes that substitute the meat to make a vegetarian version but this one was every bit its own dish. The only change I'd have liked personally is for the acidic vinegar to show up a little more in the drizzled sauce but this is perfect in its...
Read moreRevised Review I made a complaint. Came in a second time for a dish because the cook is amazing, and once the server went back to process the payment, Jason (the cook) came to me and apologized for my experience. That he spoke with his team on how to improve. I was very impressed! Therefore I recant my bad review. My original post on the food is below.
The first time I came here was Thursday at 4:45ish pm and a sweet older woman by the name of Kelley let me in before they officially opened so I can grab the full ambiance of the place as a brand new customer. I had the Pesto Pasta with zucchini noodles and man it was delicious along with the key lime pie and peanut butter pie (both of which were ok). I said I would come back if the pasta was good. And oh boy, second review below.
I ordered the shrimp & grits entree during my second visit. That meal was so on point that when the cook came out and asked how it was, I tipped the man by the name of Jason $20.00. He showed off with that dish. The spices gave a great lingering flavor, so much so, the shrimp almost only seemed to be there for the sake of the name of the entree. The grits stood by themselves!
Overall, the server (Kelley) I encountered for brunch, June 27th 2019 at 4:45pm was phenomenal and Jason the cook makes great food. However today, those two servers really got under my skin on a professional level in restaurant business ethic. Visit the cafe for Jason and Kelley! Phenomenal cook and phenomenal server! I would also...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious and amazing, definitely adding to my brunch staples list which is rare for spots that don't do bottomless drinks. The drink proportions and well crafted cocktails certainly made up for it. I had the scrapple benedict and split the blueberry lemon curd French toast with my friend. She had the breakfast burrito and we both enjoyed everything! I do wish there had been lemon curd between each pieces of French toast instead of just on top and around the plate but the taste of the bread on it's own compensated. You ever have bread that tastes like really good carby bread that you couldn't possibly buy at a grocery store? That's what that was. Could've eaten the bread for the French toast with nothing on it and still been happy. The scrapple benedict was a unique twist on the dish, I don't see scrapple that often and the added bacon bits put it over the top. The sharpness of the arugula added a nice contrast to the rest on the dish. The server offered me a side of the sausage gravy since I had also been considering the hangover hash. My gawd, put that on everything. It was amazing on the benedict and my friend loved it on her burrito. My only note is that I wish my poached egg was more runny instead of jammy. Also, amazing home fries! I usually order my home fries crispy but forgot to but nonetheless the base level of crispy is excellent. A good crispy well seasoned home fry.
Definitely will...
