Sistah Sweets is a great example of a Black-owned business that truly deserves the hype ā but could use a few tweaks to match its popularity and premium pricing. My boyfriend and I drove 1 hour and 22 minutes from Waldorf, MD, and honestly agreed ānever againā before we even got our food. The line was already out the door when we arrived, which seems to be normal even on weekdays. We parked at 10:21 AM and didnāt leave until 12:10 PM.
The space itself is small, with the line wrapping both inside and outside. Since the shop is located under an apartment building, it can feel pretty cramped ā especially when residents come and go (a woman with her dog had to pass through several times).
Once we finally ordered, service was great. The ladies at the register were super sweet, patient, and friendly ā definitely one of the highlights of the experience.
As for the food: ⢠Biscuit (3.5/5): It was decent but a bit flat for $12. With the premium prices youāre paying, youād expect a larger, fluffier biscuit ā something that really stands out. ⢠Sweet Potato Pie Matcha (3.9/5): Iām a matcha lover, but this one wasnāt my favorite. I also wish the branding was more consistent ā the 12oz cup didnāt have a sleeve or logo, while the 16oz does. ⢠Biscoff Banana Pudding (5/5): Easily the best part of the meal! Iāve tried plenty of Biscoff desserts (ice cream bars, Bundt cakes, cupcakes), and this pudding was genuinely amazing.
We spent $72 between two people, including a four-pack of cupcakes for $20. The food quality and friendly service make it worth trying once, but for the prices, Iād love to see some upgrades ā like better portion sizes, consistent labeling, and maybe even a rewards or loyalty system for returning customers.
If they expand the space or find a way to take orders outside to reduce wait times, Sistah Sweets could easily go from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a lovely and cute and aesthetic spot and I love that itās Black Owned by young women. Although I will say I will only buy the flavored Matchas and Banana Pudding from here. I have tried the cupcakes several times but I fear theyāre not for meā¦they tend to be dry, crumbly, the toppings are sometimes stale and flavor isnāt as outstanding. But the Matchas and banana puddings are to die for and you donāt even notice they donāt have banana in it because they still have that banana flavor. That said I do hope they raise enough money to open a bigger shop and get more employees because the line waits are quite crazy and there are people who order before, come to pick up their order, then cut the line and try and order more stuff knowing thereās 10 people behind them. The indoor seating is also impossible during their busiest hours and parking is tough to find without traffic honking at you for slowing down for a parking spot. I will continue to support for their banana pudding and matcha but I hope some changes could be made to the cupcakes in terms of preservation...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve eaten here before when it was a food truck, finally was able to make it to their newly open store. The minute I got in the sisters were so sweet and accommodating. I ordered a strawberry iced Matcha and the strawberry cold foam was incredible. They even had a little ribbon on top of the drink. The Matcha was so good. In general, I donāt really eat cupcakes, but I got the strawberry cheesecake cupcake and that was really good as well, I have gotten banana pudding here before but definitely want to come back to try more of their Puddings. The owners are so nice and the space is so lovely and well decorated. I felt so welcomed when I went in. I really hope everybody supports this business as we should always Support our local businesses. Also, if you sisters are reading this review, I hope you guys add some thing with strawberry crunch on strawberry cold foam or make like a banana pudding cold foam or even a biscoff cold foam as your drink items on your list because then you guys are gonna make my wallet broke! The SWEETS WERE SO GOOD IM BRINGING ALL MY...
