Overall, the service itself was great. The wait staff was attentive and even though it had gotten a bit busy when I was there, the food came out in a reasonable time. I would recommend being careful when sitting in your chair though as mine was very wobbly and has several loose screws.
I ordered the Bigfoot chicken fried steak breakfast. That was a mistake on my part because the meal was absolutely huge. Only get this if you're going to share it with someone.
As far as the food itself, it was a bit of a boxed bag. I've only eaten at Black Bear twice now, and both times my meal included a chicken fried steak. Both times now, the steak has not tasted very good. It had a very greasy flavor and was heavy in general. The greasy flavor wasn't in the breading, but all throughout the meat. The scrambled eggs that came with my meal were okay, but the American cheese I got with them definitely was not. It was an extremely dark orange and barely melted at all, when American cheese is the easiest of cheeses to melt. I don't know who they source it from, but they need to find someone else. The grits and biscuits that came with the meal were both very good and more than likely would have filled me up on their own.
I'll probably eat at Black Bear again, but I'll be avoiding the chicken fried...
Read moreIt's sad when the service is better than the food. Our server, i believe his name was Jesse, was excellent. Definitely needs a raise, he's too good for here. Now for the food; ordered a Patty melt and chicken fried steak n eggs: 1st the don't serve coke and for some of we can't stand pepsi. 2nd: the sweet potato fries we soggy and cold on the bottom, which means they mixed old with fresh. And that's just Gross and wrong. 3rd: patty melts are supposed to have grilled onions not raw red onions. 4th: hasbrowns were hard as in undercooked potatoes. I don't like eating raw potatoes or half cooked. Just ruins the meal. Last the biscuit was very big but very hard. It definitely was microwaved to make it hot cause when bread is microwaved it gets very dry and hard on the outside. It was so disappointing especially when you see it and are looking forward to eating it. The country fried steak with gravy were the only thing that was good and didn't have an issue. This was our second time here and third time for a black bear dinner all were bad in some form. There will not be a third time here or a Fourth time at any other. I can think of other places I can spend 50 dollars on food an actually have all the food quality be good not just...
Read moreFirst let me say that I have come to expect more from black bear diners. Two for dine in. I chose ribs and chicken fingers. My partner chose fish and chips. Neither came with a corn muffin though I did see from our booth that most meals got delivered with the accompanying corn bread. My sides were delightful. Possibly the best sweet potato fries I've ever enjoyed. The slaw was fresh and delicious. The ribs were not worthy of being served by your establishment. Chicken fingers were ok but I could not get a sauce that pairs extremely well. No honey mustard available..... Really? Very disappointing. The ribs if I cut the meat from the bone and cut up the pieces of meat was edible and had flavor but the texture was not correct for ribs. Service was good but not over the top. My partner enjoyed the fish immensely. We ordered dessert coconut cream pie and blackberry cobbler a la mode. The coconut cream was vanilla pudding curd topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut. ( That's not coconut cream pie as advertised in the menu ). I ate half it was still tasty but not as advertised. I've come to expect better from black bear diner! We had the option of Denny's at the flying j where we showered and came to the...
